Went Fishing on Friday!
Just a little update on how i am doing... I went fishing in Jefferson on the North Fork of the Santiam and was there about 4 hours, not a bite, packed up and went downt he road to the South Fork and styed there for about another 4 hours, just drifting corkies then tried roe, then i tried a metallic blue fox spinner for about an hour each. and NOTHING.... BUT I am optimistic and my time will come, i may go to the Sandy or Alsea this friday i have read some good things about them in a fishign Magazine i picked up at 7-11. I will keep you all posted, OH and when i do catch something EXPECT PICTURES of everything from the fight to the dinner im gonna eat it at! OH yeah any tips for the sandy or Alsea would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't bother with the Alsea anymore this year. Stick with the North Santiam. There should be a lot of fish available for you there. In another month, you'll have good opportunities for summers too. Stick with it, you'll catch one. Were there any people fishing on the South Santaim yet?

Re: Went Fishing on Friday!
Thats what i heard about the Alsea, i just figured somone wanted me out of their fishing hole. But ill count it out, then i guess it is off to the Sandy. There was only one person on the North Fork, do you know what works out there? Because i sure as heck dont. People are saying there are fish in the river, but i havent seen one caught. Well until next time Tight Lines(hopefully mine will be someday)

I have a friend that does really well on jigs in the North. Adapt to the kind of water you are fishing. You'll get it. Not many people are catching fish right now, so don't get discouraged. If you are just starting out, jigs might be a good way for you to get your first one.

JL, if you're really looking to take something home, remember the N. Santiam is nearly all native winters with only an occasional new hatchery summer being caught.

I have done quite well pitching hammered nickle Steelies. I fish them as you would bait letting them drift along the bottom with a tight line(enough to feel them wobble). When that fails I use sand shrimp with a mother of pearl corkie. Hope this helps.

I remember being in your shoes wanting that first fish more than anything. I finally got it as you will, then look out. If you e-mail me I'll tell you a few pointers and set you up with some jigs and floats...on me.

Re: Went Fishing on Friday!
JL,
As far as the Sandy, I would be B&J fishing right now. Pink, Pink w/lash and Pink beaded have been the hot colors lately. Fishing has slowed down this last week but there should still be some around. I would probably fish the Oxbow park area if I were you, you can find it on a map. The park has a 3 dollar fee to enter and is strictly bank fishing. There is allot of accessable water there and some real nice holes. JL, sorry I have'nt got back to you from your e-mail about springer fishing on the Sandy, I've been pretty busy lately but I will. Got to get the honey-do list done so I can hit the water once the springers get in good.
I'll e-mail you soon,
JL
