You should ask about this on either the salty dogs or the ifish community.

I can't ever say that I have used sand shrimp to catch bass, or you talking about catching sea perch and sea bass?

I suspect that you are talking about sea perch & rockfish (bass). Go to the flats NNE of the Marine Science lab. Then go out on the finger jetties on the south side of the bay. For the rockfish, you will do as well or better with 1/2 oz jigs and 4", (not 6") black or white twister tail grubs or 4" Storm swimbaits. Also, check with the Salty Dogs. They know.

Go right behind Mo's at Taft. I've pumped gazillions of them there. Low tide is best but you can get 'em anytime, just stay at the water line.

Part of the problem las week was the big tide change. Big is anything over 6' on the change. Next Saturday will be better with a low starting at 2.5' @ 07:00 and a high @ 12:30 of 7.8. Start in ernest at about 10:30 and fish until about an hour later. The tide will be moving too fast for jigs by then. Keep an eye out for SuperFluke & me. I'm the grey-bearded old duffer with a 12' rod. (Yes, size does matter.)

In Newport, you can get sandshrimp behind the OSU Hatfield marine center at low tide and fish the incoming tide on the Jetty for variety of fish from sea bass, sea trout to surf perch.

Actually I was trying to find out if he used sand shrimp for fresh water bass. Didn't know if he did or not. Never tried sand shrimp for bass, tried them for catfish and some stuff like that. Thought it might be a trick that I am missing out on. lol

I've caught the crap out of smallmouth on sand shrimp under a bobber on the CR just messing around in shallow water. Better than tossing the old sturgeon bait in the river.

i tried them on trout, really nice little sandshrimp but got to bite at all. I thought it wouldn't work on fresh water fish except for old sturgeon, salmon and steelhead which had exposure to them. I might be wrong big time but if they work for smallmouth then i guess i'll have to give it another try.

When the tides aren't right to dig sand shrimp...I buy unpeeled prawns at Safeway. Peel and cut into small chunks, usually five or six pieces per shrimp. The perch and greenling love em.

i second the shrimping at taft, but i usually go a little higher in the bay....not much just hike down off the highway at the big rocks and walk a ways out.
