Re: interesting guns
Ok I will play your game!
Whats interesting about these Remingtons?
All but the Spartain look very much like any other Remington Shotgun ever produced in the last 40 years or so.

Re: interesting guns
Maybe its my age.
16 gauge was and still is a good upland shell but isnt all to popular. I wouldnt consider it interesting.
The 1100 is an OK auto, but still not interesting.
My Wingmaster is 2 3/4", then they did 3" and now 3.5". The wingmaster is just an express with better fit and finish. It was only natural to put it out in 3.5". The only thing about it I find interesting is what took Remington so long.
It has long bean known Remington's aproach is to flood the market with as many variants of thier shotguns as possible.

Re: interesting guns
what has it been since they made 16ga wingmasters or 1100's 20years? then the 3 1/2" wingmaster is new. and the spartan o/u 12/223 is just slick. they also make it in 12/308 and 12/30-06

The Biggest News at the Shotshow was Beretta's New Urika 2 product line
Beretta has upgraded and improved the 391 autoloader, with the new Urika 2 shotgun line.
Improved reliability, and much easier cleaning, is
claimed for the new gas system.
Basic synthetic stocked model has a SRP of $895, with camo finish, $995
The Gold Edition lists for $1,400 I already have two Gold 390's, though, and one Gold 391 Urika, though. So I don't need anymore of these pretty shotguns.
Here is what the new Gold Edition looks like:
Here is my DU 390 Gold Edition:
And here is my Duck Killing Beretta:

Re: interesting guns
Baltz,
Ah the days of walking into the REAL Eddie Bauer store in San Francisco and seeing the beautiful leather cased Browning Superposed 2 barrel combo set there for sale, 12 ga/20 ga. Seeing all their camo hunting clothes for sale and buying a camo poncho style decoy carrier.
Then walking up the street to the REAL Abercrombie & Fitch store and walking in and looking at their custom made A&F line of side by side doubles in ANY gauge 12-28 and .410 Bore.
Where DID those stores go?!!
(Now, there isn't a single gun store left, or allowed, in S.F., oh the demise of the once FANTASTIC S.F. Gun Exchange! )
Nowadays it's pick your fav color pastel Tennis Shorts
Eddie and Abercrombie where did you go wrong?!!

now we look at pictures on the internet and order from places like able ammo. that is where i cut the pictures from. remember the place in downtown san francisco that sold exotic game dinners. as kids we would go there to eat lunch before a giants ball game, and watch bobby bonds and willie mays play a day game at candle stick park or reggie jackson in oakland

You are absolutely right. Limiting yourself to just a couple of guns will help one become a better shot. But having two guns similar in operation, is also a plus. Anyway, that is the strategy I have followed. I just shoot two guns now.
My Extrema 2 ( 7 3/4 lbs ) is now my waterfowl gun. While my 391 Urika Gold Sporting Clays ( 7 1/4 lbs ) is now both my target gun, and also my upland gun too.
Unlike Browning, the Beretta Sporting Clays models have 3" inch chambers So they also make great field guns. Between the gas action and the porting, recoil on my Urika is hardly noticeable.
The new Trigger system that Beretta introduced in the Extrema 2, and is now in the upcoming Urika 2, is utterly fantastic. I have never before felt such a great crisp trigger on a shotgun before.
Prior to getting my Extrema 2 last year, I shot a Winchester Super X2 3.5 inch for 5 years, which I absolutely loved. But I gave it to my son recently, since I now have the Beretta.
The Brownings are good gas operated guns too. And I'm sure that the brand new Gold Superlite models and the similar Winchester Super X3's are great guns too.
But I have too much money in my two Berettas, and like them too much, to even consider looking at another shotgun.
Anyway, here is my do it all pair:

You guys both grew up in the SF Bay Area too? I was born and raised in San Mateo. My Great Great Grandfather on my Dad's side of the family came to California in 1852.
Did you ever go to Imbert and Smithers in San Carlos? They are actually still in business and selling guns! The store really has not changed all that much over the years.
I occassionally go back there to see relatives. But my hometown ( and all of California ) has changed so much. The last time I was in the big Hillsdale Shopping Mall in San Mateo, I felt like I was in a foreign country, sort of a mix of Tiujuana and Hong Kong. Virtually no one was speaking English in the crowd.
The shotgun range in East Palo Alto that I learned to shoot shotgun at is long closed. And the Coyote Point Rifle and Pistol range that I learned to shoot at is virtually closed too now. It is now only open a few hours a week, so not to cause noise pollution at the nearby beach, or golf course.
Did you ever go to Bob Chow's gunshop in San Francsico? He was quite a character, and an excellent pistol marksman, as well as pistolsmith. Two of my distant cousins were national pistol champions at Camp Perry, so he knew them well. Gloria was even the overall women's pistol champ one year. Her Dad Henry was the .45 pistol champ one year too.

Call me cheap and old fashion but I still tote an ancient 1916 16ga Ithaca field grade for grouse and turkey hunting... Light to carry and feels good... carry it all day and not have sore arm from packing "heavy metal"... some nostalgia that my Dad also used this shotgun for ALL his hunting, including geese! I don't use it for goose hunting though... 12gauge for that

I kinda grew up in SFO....spent a year on Treasure Island in the Navy going to "A" school back in 1974/5....and again for Fire Fighting school.
Lived in Santa Rosa for 10 years after getting out and going to Cal Poly SLO
Back then people could help turn the cable cars around......good luck trying that today

Re: interesting guns
i got an 1100 16 ga just after they came out for x-mas 2004. I like the gun and it has performed well so far.
My only complaint is that it is not a true 16 ga frame, just a 12 w/ 16 ga barrel and bolt, etc. This equals more steel and hence my 16 ga 1100 slightly out weighs a 12 ga 1100 of the same make.
Wish I could get my dad to part with his A5 Sweet sixteen.

Re: interesting guns
I just dont see how they could have a two barreled pump shotgun. As there is a big difference in the shell catch and frame in the 20 and 28 ga gun. It must be a typo as I cant even find in on their web site. If its a 20/28 ga pump combo I will have one! I do see that in the citori o/u line they offer a 20/28 combo with 27" barrel and in the BPS uplander, as pictured, now includes 28 and .410 pumps with 22" barrels. I will seerch online for a Pump BPS combo cause that would be real interesting.

This dealer messed up on their website. Here is a link to the proper info on the Browning website for this model:
http://www.browning.com/products/cat...13&type_id=064
But if this dealer will honor their $427 price for a Citori Lightning Feather Combo 20/28, gauge, I assure you that I will be among the first to sign up to buy one.
Browning's MSRP for this model is well over $3000!

Hey Lance,
Guess so, after a fashion...
I was originally born in Stockton and lived outside of town out in "the country", close to some of the islands in the Delta. I could go hunting on some of them, like Rindge Tract, which was about a 15 min. drive from my house.
Last time I was through there I had to SEARCH to find my house, the old long driveway etc.! Where I once lived is now something like 15 minutes drive INSIDE the City Limit now.
Just before High School we moved to Portola Valley and I grew up in that area, going to Woodside High.
I've been back there several times since moving up here, where my Grandparents were from.
My paternal side of the family moved to the Stockton area in 1850 to cash in on the Gold Rush.
Yep, used to go shooting at the Penninsula Sportsmen's Club (E. Palo Alto), a few times at Coyote Point, and usually Rifle/Pistol up at Sunnyvale Rod & Gun up by Stevens Creek Res., that one's still there!
I used to hunt Ducks mostly down in the Los Banos area usually at Volta WMA, but sometimes at Los Banos WMA or San Luis NWR. My fav in that area was Mendota WMA, but that was a much longer drive and I'd only hit it 2X-3X a season.
Sometimes I'd hunt Sacramento NWR, but my fav in that area was Gray Lodge WMA over near the Sutter Buttes.
I also belonged to a "club" that leased land from Leslie Salt Co. and we hunted on marshlands out around some salt evaporator ponds out past the Penninsula Sportsman's range.
Duck hunting "Heaven" was Tulelake and Lower Klamath NWRs and we'd sometimes make that trip 3X a season, 8 hr.s drive one way!
Yes I know all those places you're referring to, including "Tommy's Joint" and their Buffalo Stew...
A couple of years ago a friend had a client who died and he bought the guys entire gun collection for a song. I bought a Single Six revolver off of him cheap. But what I really wanted was a 1911 in .38 Super that had been accurized and had "F. Bob Chow" engraved on the custom barrel and slide. My friend sold it to his son for cheaps, who was in line AHEAD of me (imagine that?).
If the truth be known, the MAIN reason I moved to this area more years ago than some of the readers have been alive was because of the DUCK HUNTING here!
I go back and visit old friends down in Cali still, but I don't think you could pay me enough $$$ to ever live back down there!

If the truth be known, the MAIN reason I moved to this area more years ago than some of the readers have been alive was because of the DUCK HUNTING here!

My Great Great Grandfather was quite a guy. He settled in the tiny town of Yolo, which is still today just a little spot on the map. Time almost seems frozen there, at least until now. Besides being a farmer, he worked as a lawyer, and became the first Yolo County DA. He was later elected to the state legislature, at the age of 68! My grandfather moved to the SF Peninsula, after losing the family farm during the great depression.
I was at the Sunnyvale Rod and Gun club a couple of years ago, and boy they have had some problems! They were found in violation of the county's noise ordinance. There are lots of huge multi-million dollar homes nearby, and people complained about the noise of all the shooting.
Besides cutting back on their shooting hours greatly, they had to build in all kinds of major sound insulation around the rifle range, to dampen the sounds of the rifle shots.
On the shotgun range, they now ban any barrels shorter than 26". And no load rated at more than 3 drams. The day I was there, the rangemaster caught a poor guy with 1 oz 3/14 dram light field loads, and the guy looked like he was on the edge of exploding with anger. The unfortunate fellow really got a chewing out for using the ammo.
Yes, I hunted a few times in the Los Banos area too. My Dad had his own small business, though. So our hunting trips were far too infrequent, looking back now.
I moved here in 1993, when my employer at that time decided to move some of their operations up here. Myself, and about 100 other employees from California moved here with our jobs.
I'm no longer with that firm anymore, though, as they outsourced all the jobs in the division I was in ( about 350 jobs ) to India back in 2002.
