Default Honda Accord dashlights inop.

I have an 86 Accord. The thing has been sitting awhile. I started it up to start driving it again.Everything works great. But no dashlights. The clock worked for awhile but it quit too. All other lights work.

I've checked fuses under the hood. And in the drivers compartment. All are good. Anybody know if theres a relay or something else I may have missed.Could it be the switch.Or maybe the dial on the dash that adjusts the illumination of the lights?

I'm up for any ideas that somebody may have.

Thanks

I would recommend calling your local Honda dealership's service department and just see if they can troubleshoot your problem with you over the phone. Good Luck!

Did you check the tail light fuse? I'm not exactly sure on that car, but it seems like lots of Hondas and Nissans have the dash fused in the same circuit.

The clock is a curious clue, could be a loose wire at that age.

I would take the dashboard apart! Of course I would regret it later, although I would probably get it working somehow ... that's my typical modus operendi

The problem could very well be in the headlight/dimmer control switch itself.

Always check the dumb things first. There is a little control knob that controls the brightness of the dash lights. Make sure you roll that sucker back and forth to see if it will bring the lights and dome light to attention. Possible that this switch has gone bad.

Sometimes the most obvious things are the ones we over look. Have you tried turning the dimmer both ways. Also is their a overide button to shut it off.

I have been repairing computer equipment for over 25 years and some of the easiest are often over looked. I once drove 65 mile to a customers site because his monitor wasnt working. When I got their I turned up the brightness and instant fix. I should have asked him that over the phone before I got thier but hindsite is 20/20. Also check grounding that will also cause issues. If all else fails get a bigger hammer. LOL Good luck.

Do your Brake lights work? I know that seems strange, but normally in Hondas if the clock is not working, neither are the brake lights. Also check the horn. It may just be a simple fuse, but it most likely will not be labled Dash lights, it will be your brake lights or horn fuse.

My son has a similar car. Exactly the problem. Switch was hard to find in the seattle area.
