Like Marshbum stated in an earlier post; hunt the last week regardless of the weather. I took the advice, not that I wasn't planning on going without the advice, and took a half day to see if the ducks had come back to the field after the winter snow and ice storm. They had and in much better color than before. It is amazing what a week and a half will do for color in the drakes.
We managed a limit even though the day started slow.
We got our two pintail drakes, two gadwall hens in poor color (don't get that one), three spoonies (one immature drake), one drake baldie, five drake GWT and one lone suzy who was coerced into the spread by either my calling or the winduk. I will say it was my calling but the only witness can't testify
Gotta love the spoonbill, seems like an evolutionary superior adaptation
The color on the GWT was pretty amazing. I tried to mess with the aperature to show the iridescence but the picture does not do the drake justice.
Finally a picture of my buddies first bull sprig. It was a nice big bull that came into the decoys with its feet down and when my buddy popped up to shoot I think I actually heard the bull whistle "OH S&@t!".
I have one more duck hunt left in me for this season (work and family obligations

) so I hope it is good so I can post the season end.
