Default Sea Kayak fly fishing?

I posted a general question on the "Community" board but thought a repeat might be in order because I fly fish primarily. Anyone out there fly fish out of open sea kayaks on the coast? I always thought it would be interesting to try but was wondering who amongst Ifisher's have given it a go. Thanks for any/all info in advance.

Abalone has fished this way numerous times. However, he is not as active on this forum as he was in the past. Maybe you should try sending him a PM.

I have fished a number of lakes as well as a few rivers from a 14’ sea kayak. While I have had a kayak in salt I have never fished in salt or of a kayak.

hey i use a ocean kayak drifter and have fished the columbia river and ocean from it. i would say in the ocean make sure you are capable of paddling for a good stretch of time, and that there is no offshore wind blowing. i fished at barview jetty and would reccomend a shooting head system with a 8 weight rod and about 27-30 feet of lc-13. fish around the jetty and do not use a regular line the barnacles on the rocks will chew it up. use any baitfish imitation and enjoy. oh yeah wear a life jacket do not just have it on your yak but wearing it fastened tightly.

luck pat
