Default Whats in Maupin/Pine Grove?

The only thing I know about it is, theres nobody there. Which is exactly why I am considering moving there. So far, the only reason I wouldnt go is if theres no cellphone service.

Someone talk me out of it.

If the Warm Spring tribes open it to springers and they get a decent run it can be a good fishery!! Also the steelhead run isn't that bad. Lots and lots of rafters in the summer. That could be good or bad depending on how you look at it.

I lived(worked) there nearly twenty years ago, but I hear it's better now. Smallest town I ever lived in. Best place to go out hunting and fishing from EVER! What's the job? Maybe I want it!

Chukar, Quail, Pheasants not too far. Big D - Duh! I'm sure we can work something out for lodging and shuttling my rig when I run the river over there. Nice quiet area. Cell phones, broadband and indoor plumbing might be a problem though. Time to dust off that fly rod, Doug!

Population of Maupin + one cell phone = population of Maupin.

Population of Seattle + one cell phone = Population of Seattle.

Elementary my dear Texan.

I went to grade school there in the 70's. Great place for a kid to grow up. My dad and I want back in the late 80's during the summer and the town was overun by rafters. I haven't been back since.

I see deer and wild turkeys right in Pine Grove all the time. Lions sneak around on the edge of townooking for an easy meal.

Deshutes is definately a PLUS! Drive down toward Macs Canyon and see bighorns on the hillsides.

Whats not to like?

RvW, do a little checking around before you decide to buy. My wife and I have been exploring the area for a while and it is changing a lot, especially the Tygh Valley/Wamic area. There were numerous measure 37 claims that have been accepted and from what I was told on Saturday by a farmer friend over there, there has been a 110 home subdivision just approved. I know Pine Grove is a tad bit farther away, but people are moving in fairly quickly. The county officials feel that developement is a good thing. I would agree, but I would like to have been in on it from the get go. It is a great place. We hope we won't get priced out before we can actually purchase something over there.

Good times had at the Rainbow Tavern! Fun place, but it probably wont be too enjoyable during the summer months.

Ive been peeking at properties over in Maupin. Its to late for a good deal. the new sub in Maupin is sold out already, and I think they each went for 350k
Cell phone svc is in Maupin, but not all carriers. Its a great place if you want small, very small. My daughter age 8 wants to move there, and I am in agreement when its possible. Nothing like being able to breath through the nose. I have sinus trouble and as soon as I arrive there, it disappears... In fact all my troubles disappear in Maupin. Nice new Lodge, great food and drink. world class, reminded me of Scottsdale.

The heavy party days in Maupin have diminished. The area is heavily patrolled by more than several agencies. Use caution driving from the Dalles, unmarked patrol car having a field day with anxious drivers. Feds use night vision goggles to check camps for sneaky smokers. Troopers use bionocs to monitor rafters. Sherrif will suddenly appear on foot with radar gun near 25 mph areas.

Oh, you were lucky enough to have a school mascot named "Redsides"!

Last Summer it was very quiet in Maupin, all the press on rafters drowning cost the local rafting economy about 1 million in lost revenue.
