Default Goose Down

So I've been starting to hunt geese recently and am interested in taking the down to make a pillow or some such thing with. My question is what feathers should I pluck?? One buddy told me to pluck all the under belly feathers while another told me only to take the fine feathers underneath the guard feathers on the belly.. I've tried both and its a pain in the butt to try and pull the fine stuff from underneath the guards.. what should I be plucking and how??

I have a pillow made of down we plucked from a few geese last year. Very nice. As I recall we used belly down.

Only thing is you have to watch for bird lice. More common than you think. Yuck!

Belly feathers/down. Wash them in Woolite and put them thru the dryer several times and it should get rid of all the critters.

I used both duck and goose down once to make a quilt/comforter for my wife. Takes a special tight weave of linen. I sewed the panels and then used a vaccuum cleaner to fill them. I didn't pick through the feathers to get to the down, but rather just used all the belly and up some on the chest...feathers and down both...saved them up for a season...takes more than you think...Good luck!
