Default What size kicker?

We have a 19' fiberglass v-8 bluewater with a 30 gal. built in tank. It is a heavy boat with the bow seats, and misc. We are happy with our trolling plate and it really slows us down for trolling.
We would like to maybe someday add a kicker for an emergency power source since we can't walk home if the I/O quits. What size, brand, etc. do you think we need as a minumum?

Yamaha T8 is the Gold standard of kickers.

I think any old 4-stroke will do. 8, 9.9, or 15 hp would be perfect. Yamaha and Honda are the top two. If you don't have the money to waste, you can look around on craigslist, you can find a good deal on a good used one.

I have two 4 strokes and the yamaha 8 hp is by far the way to go.
the only thing to remember is that 4 strokes are really heavy so make sure you get one that works with your particuler boat....which I'm sure your boat will be fine with.

Max speed with most any 8-15 hp kicker wont be much over 5-6 mph, so buy what you feel best suit's your needs.

Yamaha T8! Quiet, smooth, and plenty of power.
