Quail Box

As spring approaches I was interested in making a quail box. I saw one years ago on a bird hunting show on a game farm. It was rigged in such away that when one covey returns to water and feed it traps them in and the other covey is released from the other half of the box. They go back and forth this way. So they are warm and cozy fifty percent of the time and protected from predators. I know that quail are a little hard to establish when they are not the wild raised and suspectible to predators but wanted to give it a try with my daughter this year. I have searched the net and nothing much out there. Would be a fun building project this winter and fun project in the spring. Any ideas. Thanks.

Sounds like we are getting closer, now hopefully someone will have an idea how to make one where the birds interact and call each other to the box which will release the other birds. Although I do like the idea of the Johnny House, I am not always around in the spring especially May through August to secure them up at night. Looks like you progressively give them little bits of freedom until they recognize the JH as home. Thanks for the link .
