No college football playoff!!!!
Or so says Jim Delany, Big-10 boss. Interesting read.

It's all money - not fans, players, or even the best teams competing. Big surprise.

You got it partner! I think that any die-hard college football fan would love to see Boise St. play USC in a second round. The Broncos went undefeated this year and deserve a shot a national title. The Trojans annihilated Michigan. Let's settle it on the field instead of in a biased football poll. How many bowl games has Notre Dame lost in a row? So much for BCS match-ups.

Re: No college football playoff!!!!
So at least 8 more years of no playoff system. Some people just better learn to live with it.

Re: No college football playoff!!!!
64 teams come together for March madness, 120 baseball teams get together and have a college world series in baseball to come up with a National Champion, But What the BSC has done it has taken away the underdog, Cinderella of Football, you either are No 1 or No 2.
How sad when the birth of this country , we were undersogs to the British. And this great nation was born.
I do little watching of the bowl games. Because they do not mean a thing.

Re: No college football playoff!!!!
I'd like to see it too. Start all teams unranked.... no rankings for first 4-5 weeks. Then let the BCS math go to work. In the end, top 6-8 teams go through a playoff process.
But yes, money talks....as it should when you really think about it all.

Re: No college football playoff!!!!
trust me theres more money in a playoff then in the bowls.....the bowls keep increasing there payments so they can control what is inevitable....a playoff....but if basketball can make a $1,000,000,000 off a 5 year deal with March madness just think what a 5 year playoff deal of college football playoff is worth

Re: No college football playoff!!!!
do u really care about the "international bowl" thats being played tomorrow?.....i do think it would need a way to keep some extra teams playing in some sort of bowl game......but the teams that go 6-6 should not be rewarded with an extra game and ata boys....where do u make the line....well that would be 16 at teams like every other football playoff in college......the blue print is already out there.
cut the season off 1 or 2 weeks earlier and have at it.....the extra game does generate a lot of money....the huskers make about 4 million per home game by the last numbers i saw and they expanded there stadium from 76,000 to 85,000 last year....

Re: No college football playoff!!!!
I dont, but there are people who do....thus, its on tv and will be watched by lots of people.
So where does the extra money come from? This is part of the problem...there is no real economic gain to be had by a playoff process. As to your own admission, cut the season short, and lets assume Nebraska hits the skids and goes 2-10 for the next 10 years running. Now not only are you not in a bowl game, you're also now out millions of $$.

Re: No college football playoff!!!!
How about the fact this is college football. Ya know students going to school? A potential three more games after bowl games means an approximate 16 game season. Let's not worry so much about $ or national titles...it a game for students most never going pro.
They are not in school to kill their bodies or drag a physically brutal season another month. They are college students, not pros. Football is not like March Maddness ya can't play that many football games. Think college students ya'll. The NCAA is thinking correctly.
Aren't the bowl game pretty exciting!

They won't do it because Notre Dame would rarely qualify for the first round.

Re: No college football playoff!!!!
I don't disagree with rimrock. And this is from someone whose team had to share the Mythical National Championship.
And the bowl games mean plenty........to the kids that play in them.

Re: No college football playoff!!!!
Actually Rimrock, there are football playoffs in the lower divisions of college football. If the USC's and Michigans of the world wanted to know how to do a playoff, a quick phone call to the Linfields and Boise States (They probably still remember playoffs, they won enough of them) would be all it would take.
I think the real problem is the idea of a "National Champion" with a system so subjective, it has no real chance of convincing a majority of sports fans who the "National Champion" really is.
If you want your team to be an undisputed "National Champion' it has to be done on the field, not at the ballot box.
If you are happy with your team being the "Champion" of a bowl as I am, then the bowl system is set up very well to provide that.

Hey Husker, you are like the smartest guy in history despite having a corn cob avatar imitating a bad replica of Mr. Potato head or something.
The BCS will hang on for now but mark my words, a NCAA football tourny would be bigger than the Super Bowl..... Can you imagine the hype that would build up? Look at how much $$$$$ could be generated from places like: Austin, Tx. Lincoln, Na. Tuscaloosa/Birmingham.....
You get the picture..... I am talking about the regions of the country that have fans but no pro football.....
Put a marketing plan around something like that and you tell me..... You can keep the traditional sites of Phoenix, LA, Miami, New-Orleans and throw in a new stadium like they are building in Dallas or put the game in Detroit or Atlanta
I would strongly disagree with those who would discount the value of this vs. the current system.

Re: No college football playoff!!!!
Certainly the other levels of college football other than D1a have a playoff system. The other levels also don’t have bowl play either. Additionally for example the champions of DivII and NAIA this season played a total of 14 games (man that’s still a bunch). There would most likely be 16 for a D1a playoff, doesn’t sound like much but man it is - for college students.
Also there would still be controversy if it was only 8 teams in a playoff. There would be complaint if you were ranked #9, people would be bashing for a 16 team playoff – yet another game. All this in addition to spring and fall camp for D1? Yikes that’s a bit too much for college students working on a degree, cause it ain’t about going pro for the vast majority of these kids.
And settling it on the field doesn’t settling anything now does it? Last year people keep saying USC was better then Texas, even though Texas won! Even in pro football did the Super Bowl last year “settle” the championship? Or was there still complaint and controversy?
For me the college bowl season is unique no other thing like it out there! What fantastic games there have been, with lots of teams and seniors ending their football careers as champions! It works great!!!!!!!

They did my friend but that was the perfect situation for the BCS. Two big time programs with undefeated records clashing in the college game of the year. Simple enough: the winner takes all and is national champion. No controversy there.
This year however is a BCS nightmare come true. What if Forida squeaks past the buckeyes in the "championship" game? Who would be the national champ? Florida...Ohio State...USC...LSU...Boise State (the only undefeated team)?
I can just see the computers and oiuja boards A-SMOKIN' now!
