White Honkers?
We were on our way home from a Chukar hunt in Fields the other day and saw something pretty interesting! We were driving along the Malheur refuge between French Glenn and the turn off for the headquarters when we passed a small group of Honkers. At first glance it looked like there were a couple of snows with them then we did a Double Take! After finding a place to turn the truck and trailer around we went back and snapped some photos of this rare sight! What do you think the deal is here?
My guess was Albino Canada's???? Everything looked the same except the legs were almost a grey instead of black. No photo doctoring, PROMISE. Pretty weird

Re: White Honkers?
They were totally doable for a belly crawl, but I didn't know enough about the location on the refuge and I didn't have any steel with me?

Re: White Honkers?
those are cool- and two of them ??? that's crazy, that means it is something to do with hybridization (is that even a word?)

Re: White Honkers?
Interesting,
I saw one similar bird except the dark markings had more of a brown tone and more brown in the wings in SW Washington last week. There was only one in a group of Tavs in a field. At first I thought it was a snow but when I glassed it for twenty minutes it was clearly some type of hybrid. Definatley not a snow ... no pics.

Re: White Honkers?
We could do a Punett Square.
Looks like they must be Recessive On Recessive genetics (Probably are both siblings of a Female Recessive that paired up with a mate from the same family line that had a proper match for this cream color tone.)
Kind of like getting twins that are both red headed, blue eyed and Dwarfs.
Really really unusual.
I wonder if they taste like they are made of vanilla ice cream?

Re: White Honkers?
Interesting
Has anyone else seen a goose like this? I might have to stop hunting the west side and only focus on these two birds

Re: White Honkers?
I saw a goose a couple weeks ago in the Wheatland area that was kinda like that. Im still unsure what type of cross it was but Im sure it was a cross. It was really light grey almost white through out its entire body. Its beak and legs were dark not black (more like a dark grey) not orange and its head seemed to be a bit bigger (fatter) than "normal". Its eyes were also dark not like an albino. It looked to be about the size of a big Tav. and was with a huge mixed flock of birds feeding in a field. We watched it for about an hour but didnt have a camera with us. I have not seen it since.
Cool looking birds and some I would like to add to the bag anyday!

Oh by the way Scott....I got a new phone yesterday....problems with the old one prevented our conversation last evening.
