Default Another passed down trophy

After seeing that big Roosevelt that got passed down, I thought I would share this one with you...

The buck was shot by my great grandfather in 1946, and at that time it was not put into a shoulder mount. At that time, one of the options was to have the antlers varnished, and that is what he did. A few years ago, I finally talked my dad and my uncle into putting the antlers into a cape, and I would take on removing the varnish. I can't remember now what I used to remove the varnish, but it took many hours of sitting in the garage with a toothbrush scrubbing the antlers. Once the varnish was off, the antlers still had a really nice color to them (as seen in the picture). We went to a taxidermist that did my dad's Elk a coulpe years prior to, and he managed to find us a cape from a big Mule deer from Montana. So, now we have it in a nice shoulder mount. It has 17 scoreable points on one side and either 14 or 15 on the other, and you can still see the metal tag hanging off the right side of the antlers. One side also has a bullet hole through it's antlers. I took it to the Sportsman show a couple years ago to have it officially scored, and it should now be in the record book for the state of Washington. It scored 225 1/8" non-typical. It was very close to the Eastern/Western Washington line, and some thought it could be a cross between a Blacktail and a Muley, which would make it an even greater record, but there is no way to prove it now.

Sorry, that is the only picture I have right now. I am at college and the head is hanging on my dad's wall. I will see if I can get him to take a picture of the bullet hole tonight and e-mail it to me.

Ya gotta love those "brush-pile" bucks. I saw one similar to that over in the Bonanza/Dairy area one year. Nice.

Very nice! The taxidermist did a great job on the mount!

Lots of stickers, kickers, and trash. They always make for a cool buck.

Thats a stud buck. I found a similar "diamond in the rough" a few years back in a junk pile behind a barn. Its supposed to be a blacktail, the tag is from Oregon-1934. Hope the pictures work.

Alright, my dad finally got me those pictures tonight, so here they are. The last two show the bullet hole.

Hmmm, evidence of buck fever. It has finally been proven to be fact.
