Default SI Westside water level and Report?

Thinking of taking the sled out to Sauvies in the morning to put my hand in the poker chip bag . How high is the water on mud lake, and have there been birds flying in good numbers.

Our usual spot down in the valley has been very sloooow.

Thanks for the help. PM if desired.

Dan,
http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?14211820
If the Columbia Slough gage goes near 10-12ft, it's a boat only day on the westside. The gilbert launch will be flooded and the Mudhen parking lot flooded and Racetrack will be HUGE pond.

Not quite a boat only day but it's headed that way. Plenty of water for your sled. Good luck and have fun.

I always look at the Columbia Slough gage: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?14211820

Looks like it's crested fro now.....BUT, more rain on the way.
By Sun it maybe boat only for te Westside.

Hehe, where we were today (a "side" body of water in ML unit), 4 feet off the bank and you'd go OVER your waders!

(Good thing we HAD the boat!)

We were on ML#13 (Big Martin's, right behind you and between you and ML#9).

My buddy got up to the Check Station and realized he forgot his Hunting License! So he bacame a "walker".

About 2 min. after shooting time a pair of Mallards came in and I got a double (with my too short 26" barrelled 870 ). Then, while Sparky was out retrieving Duck #1 another Mallard circled down out of the treetops and I dropped it, almost on top of us.

2' 30" into the morning and I thought, "Here we go, if this keeps up we'll be out of here before 8!"

Well, that wasn't to be. After about 9 a.m. the Ducks almost REFUSED to come over those trees onto our side!

We just ground away at the few that did come over and I ended up with 6 Mallards and a nicely plumed out drake Widgeon.

I think I saw you guys at the boat ramp yesterday, you were having some motor trouble...?(we were in my 18' predator). My uncles and I did well on Mud with a limit. We had a heck of a time bringing birds down, several mallards lost a few body feathers only to fly away and be gone.

Birds are getting pretty decoy shy, 35 yards is about as close as they will get to the trees anywhere around mud lake.

Yes, that was us alright!

And that's what I get for NOT bringing the spray can of Starting Fluid with me! (Well, the last time I did have it and the motor started on the 2nd pull WITHOUT it! )

Fortunately ML#13 is only about 300 yds. away from the put in and the Sportcanoe paddles GREAT!

BTW, a can of Starter Fluid is now IN my ammo box of supplies that goes along w/the boat.

Sorry to here about the motor problems, it happens to us all, ONCE.

Good job on the birds. Sounds like you stuck with it alright.

It's actually happened to me MORE than once. (And hence my affinity for the canned Ether:grin: )

And it wouldn't happen very often IF I got my OBs out and ran them more than 1-2 times a season.

In fact, after the last time I might have even sprayed this OB down with some Fogging Oil, and that might be a big part of it.

(Back when there were PLENTY of Ducks on the NORTH end of Sturgeon Lake, all my motors got a real good workout during the 2nd half of the season making trips out to Malarky, Crane Lake and Aaron Lake!)

I'm actually pretty good w/2-Stroke motors, and it only takes a few tools and supplies to keep 'em up and running.

Nice that I have all of those....back at home, in my garage!
