Re: Thinking about buying an H3 Input??
My wife thought they were cool and we checked them out when she was car shopping. I don't think there was a single thing I liked about them.
They tow capacity is 4500lbs,but the payload is only about 1000. With the small amount of payload available after you put a couple guys and gear in the H3 you won't have alot left for any tounge weight.
It technically would have towed my boat, but I would have overloaded the H3s payload.
400lbs tounge weight
250lbs for me
200lbs for a passenger
we're just about maxed out.
The engine in the H3 is pretty weak as well. IIRC it only has about 220hp and 225lb of torque. The engine does feel really smooth though (inline 5cyl)
It has terrible blind spots and the windows are really small. The small windows made it feel smaller than it was.
Like I said,I'm not impressed.

Re: Thinking about buying an H3 Input??
I remember when the H2 first came out and I saw it at the auto show. Waited in line just to sit inside it, and when I did, my bubble burst. Cheap plastic interior, felt flimsy, etc. Pass.

Re: Thinking about buying an H3 Input??
A neighbor bought one last month. She was tired of everyone (dad, boyfriend, ex husband, current husband) telling her what she should be driving. Of course all the neighbors and kids drooled all over it for the first couple of weeks. Now all she has is a giant gas sucking kid hauler with a BIG monthly payment. My ,---bank the money each month and stick to a fuel effiecient car that will haul the kids and dog without the fanfair.

Re: Thinking about buying an H3 Input??
I did not care for the head room or the lay out of the interior. I think a person could do way better for the buck. As far as towing anything over a driftboat would not be very safe.

Re: Thinking about buying an H3 Input??
My Dad rented one back a few weeks ago. My first complaint is I banged my knee on the side of the dash getting in the thing every time. Mind you I'm only 5'9" but there is no way I'd ever think of buying one - very uncomfortable ride as well

Re: Thinking about buying an H3 Input??
I drove one for a week. Did not like it. Seems small and uncomfortable yet with the big truck look. My money (if I had any) would be spent on a 2 year old real SUV.

The H3 is built on the Chevy Colorado frame.

I think it's pretty much a Tahoe with a hummer looking body and a big price tag. Not really something your going to do any off-roading with.

Re: Thinking about buying an H3 Input??
Wife wanted one and I test drove it. Gutless and small. Ended up buying an envoy denali.
The H2 on the other hand has the 6 liter and goes pretty good and is big.

Re: Thinking about buying an H3 Input??
I saw a brand new 4x4 Van on Mglaughlin the other day parked at the
Electric repair shop. I was drueling over it. If I had $50k or more the throw into a vehicle that's what I would buy. I have a 1974 Chev Van 4x4
and I love it. Just wish the body was newer.
Think about how functional it is. This past weekend while near bend we Four wheeled our way back into the snow, parked and slept in it.
The outside temp was 16 deg F. and we were warm and snug under a full moon and no one else for miles. If I need to haul anything I just hitch up the trailer... You can camp anywhere including a back street in any town.
Just a suggestion !
It looked just like this:

Re: Thinking about buying an H3 Input??
You might consider the new redesigned ford sport trac. With the v8 engine it's towing capacity is 6800 lbs. (i believe) Drives like a car, they really did a nice job.

Actually, they have pretty good off-road capability. They have more ground clearance than most 4x4s and good aproach and departure angles as well. They come with a decent locking rear diff also.
If they had better tires and a stouter engine they'd go even better.

Re: Thinking about buying an H3 Input??
We just got my wife a slightly pre-owned certified 06 Durango to replace our 98 that we're selling. We love it. Lots of towing power, great ride, very nice. Doesnt have the "image" of a Hummer, but doesnt have the price tag of it either.
Pre-owned is the way to go.

Re: Thinking about buying an H3 Input??
Humvee's are obsolete:
“The Humvee A2 is a great vehicle, [but]it has outlived its usefulness,” said McConnell. “We have added very capable armor to the Humvees in Iraq. But for every pound of armor you add, that’s a pound less capable the vehicle is. zSB(3,3)
Perhaps you can pick one up cheap at an army surplus store ?

Re: Thinking about buying an H3 Input??
Look at the 4 door Wrangler.
More bang for your buck with better off road capabilities.

Re: Thinking about buying an H3 Input??
Don't go and tell a guy to get dork machine like that 4 door Wrangler. That thing should never have been past the concept faze. I love jeeps and the 2 door Wrangler, but that thing is so stupid looking I want to puke whenever I see one.
all in good fun OK.

Why is it women want one of those things? My wife wants one real bad, but I keep telling her a toyota fj is probably a much more reliable rig( ofcourse, she doesn't like the "looks ")

My brother bought one. He said that the only downside is the small rear window, but it is a true blue Off-road machine.
