Max-4 HD

This blends nicely at Sauvies; my husband loses me at least once a trip.

Wait a minute! You don't suppose he does it on purpose

Mossy Oak New Shadow Grass is also an option which I guess I didn't consider for some reason. Although now looking at it closer on their site it doesn't look as green as it does on the retailer's site.

I have a wetlands pattern on my coat and my hunting partner has max 4. I think the max 4 looks better overall but it depends where we are hunting. His coat is too dark to stand in the corn stalks but mine is too light for mud and sticks.

Thus my dilema. The property I hunt has corn, it has grass, it has willow coverd blinds, it has cotton wooded banks along sloughs, and grass lined banks and it has cut grass pit blinds.... What would be the best over all camo?

And thanks to all for your input. I ran some searches and not much showed up - so this is all very helpful.

The Wetlands is a really good match in Corn.

The Max 4 is really good in the treelines as is Shadowgrass.

be still and you can where RED!!!

OK maybe not, but being still is JUST as important if not more so than the camo pattern.

To answer you r question, wetlands is a good all around pattern.

I'm not sure I really believe this (above)!

First birds see colors really WELL!

So any bright/unnatural colors will catch their eyes, right away.

Then as far as just holding still, I've viewed hunters "hiding" into the edges of standing corn from a distance. They were wearing a camo pattern that was much darker than the corn. There they sat, on their buckets "concealeed" and yet I could easily "make" them, and their human shapes from a couple of hundred of yards away.

So can the Ducks!

If they can see/make out your "human" shape, they've seen that enough to know that's not where they want to be.

This might not be so much a big deal in the broken colors/patterns of "woods", but in a place with a uniform color like a big grass or corn field where EVERYTHING'S the same color, then color matching there should be considered.

My

If I had my choice, I would take a guy in the blind in a brown (or maybe even red) jacket before I would take someone in camo and such who is trying to look right at the birds constantly and never stops talking.

Any of the camo you list will work fine. I have mostly max 4, and yet my jacket and breathable waders look quite different, the jacket is much lighter and paler. I also have a shadowgrass windbreaker and a max 4 drake waterfowl pullover. I use them all, and haven't noticed any differences. I have heard max-4 referred to as a "black hole", and it is dark, but it isn't black. Plus, there are plenty of black holes in most vegetation.

I think the main purpose of camo is to break up your outline, and no camo pattern will blend you in to all surroundings. A ghillie suit would really be best.

Remember that birds see quite differently than people do. They see into the ultraviolet spectrum, or at least very near it. And while people have something like 200,000 photoreceptors per mm^2, but depending on the species, there might be up to 5 times that in the birds eye. Your camo probably looks very different to a bird than it does to you. So do your decoys !

I'd go withteh wetlands camo. You'll blend in well with corn, and when you'll be hunting areas with darker vegetation, you can rub some mud on the jacket to help it blend in more.

For those that have been around it - does the Advantage MAX-4 HD stand out when in tall dry grass's and corn?

the best thing i every did for camo, was buy a piece of 5'x15' advantage wetlands camo fabric, staple it to some 5' 1"x1" sticks. and build a blind with it.

I've got some Wetlands camo, and also some MAX 4.

I'd say the MAX 4 stands out as a little darker in corn.

In grassy woods, it's great!

Here's a pic that shows the contrast well. This is a Wetlands jacket with a MAX4 hat. You can see the difference in the shades. (Click on the pic to see it larger)
