Default Wad Restriction Chokes

Have any of you guys used wad restriction type chokes for waterfowling like the patternmaster or the wad wizard? What are your thoughts?

Are there any significant differences between the wad wizard and the patternmaster? They look very similar to me. Any comments are appreciated.

I'm a BIG believer in wad stripper chokes. My Briley 10ga turkey choke is ported with reverse cresent cuts that dig at the wad as it passes through the choke and I believe it acts like a wad stripper and it patterns AWESOME.

Straight round porting doesn't seem dig at the wad nearly as much.

Kurt, have you figued out what thread & pitch our Spartan chokes are??? I haven't.

I'd like to try a patternmaster as I don't think they are as shot size influenced. In other words it should pattern a BB/BBB goose load as well as it does a #3/#2 duck load. For those hunting the river that swap out duck loads for BB when a bunch of starts to head their way, might find the pattern master to shoot both loads equally well.

Remember in a std choke, shot size affects the pattern....a wad stripper choke doesn't care and isn't affected by shot size.
So they say anyway.

I can't give a comparison between the two. But I can tell you that the pattern improvement from my stock Beretta chokes to the Wad Wizard was dramatic. The holes that I consistantly saw in the pattern thrown by the stock tubes were quite large. With the WW tube the patterns were very consistant across all the loads I patterend. Definitely worth the investment in my guns case.

It's not ported, and it isn't a patternmaster, but the Wad Wizard supreme can be bought to fit a baikal MP 153 or spartan SPR 453. They call it Truchoke. The thing is listed for medium to long range, so it might be too tight for those days when they are feet down in the dekes, but heck, any old choke will shoot pretty good for that. 95 clams. Ouch. I might buy one anyway, I am a sucker.

I have a Patternmaster and I love it. I admit I haven't analyzed the pattern on it as much as I should but I sure seem to knock down birds better at longer range. Keeping in mind that every gun patterns differently here is a link to some patterning results.

Love my patternmaster. Remember to screw it in after shooting rounds as it loosens up. Really cold weather and a loose patternmaster can equal disaster. Not to hi-jack this thread but what Hunt fish posted is interesting because I got a spartan over under for christmas and would like to know about the choke tubes in that.
