How do people dispose of tagged animals
I normally don't have this problem because I'm eating tag soup.
But this year, I've had a successful season.
I got 1 3pt muley head which will become an antler mount.
And the remains of about 13 ducks sitting in my deep freezer, and quickly running out of space.
How do people dispose of this stuff?
Is is ok to place this in the garbadge, or should I drive to woods and dump the remains somewhere in the forest.

Re: How do people dispose of tagged animals
cut the antlers off the skull, put in heavly black garbage bag and put it in the regular garbage can. with the ducks eat them or give them to someone who will. to through them away can get you a big ticket for waste of game. not a good thing.

Baltz I'm not talking about wasting game.
The ducks have been processed, vacuum sealed as boneless meat waiting for a trip to the butcher. But I have the remains in terms of the head, and other scraps which isn't edible.

Re: How do people dispose of tagged animals
I'd put the duck remains in the garbage, and take the deer head back out in the woods. Give the critters something to snack on.

Re: How do people dispose of tagged animals
I try to take mine back into the woods, and it will be gone in a couple of days. Kind of like recycling. Just don't dump along a road somewhere, or where the public is likely to stumble onto it. And as far as the ducks I usually use the carcasses for crab bait.

I have dumped my share of carcass in the woods and I know it makes sense but keep in mind you can be ticketed for littering. Thats what my officer brother tells me anyway...

Re: How do people dispose of tagged animals
here is something to consider, disease like cwd can spread by dumping carcases or skulls into the food chain. it is what i used to do with the bones and skull of game animals. even as recent as last deer seasons. but after reading all the info on cwd disease. i'll not be doing it anymore, if at all possible.

Re: How do people dispose of tagged animals
For the most part I leave the hides, gut piles, genitals, etc... at or near the location of the kill and if the animal had CWD to begin with it would have deceased somewhere in the neighborhood anyways, so I don't see any problem. Heads usually end up in the can.
Fish carcasses end up in the can, in a crab trap or buried around a bush in the yard.
Most everything else ends up in a can or crab trap.

Not to condon the waste of good meat, but according to regs, waste refers to leaving game in the field (except cougar...?). Once you get it home, you can do what you wish.

Re: How do people dispose of tagged animals
I toss mine in the "dumpster of death" named by my kids.
I'm not sure what is worse, the piles of goose carcasses in the winter, or salmon carcasses in May when it's 90 degrees.
My poor garbage guy never knows what he's gonna get.

this is an incorrect assumption. a waste of game ticket can be given at any time waste of game happens. even if you transfere the game to your neighbor and they waste it, they can get the ticket, even though they did not harvest the game

"waste" is defined in the Hunting regs, 2006, on page 11, and specifically refers to #2 above, "from the field".
So, as I said before, once you get it home you may do as you wish. I really can't see it interpreted any other way.

Re: How do people dispose of tagged animals
C'mon Snakebite, It is simple written english.
If you squint real hard you can see all those "special" definitions hidden in those simple words.
Next thing you know you won't be able to have more than 14 ducks in your freezer during the whole season.
ooops did I almost hijack. my apologies.

Re: How do people dispose of tagged animals
if you take a duck while legally hunting, bring it into your home and place it in your trash can, then take it out to the street where a dog knocks it over and exposes the duck for all to see, the neighbor calls the odfw and reports this duck. when the osp officer shows up to investigate, he determines it came out of your can, he knocks on your door and you answer. i know what comes next, do you.

On garbage day get up early and throw it on top of your neighbors garbage. Actually I black bag and into my garbage.

Who deems what is edible? I hate liver, but it is edible.
Sometimes edible portions (edible to me), become unedible (freezer burn, spoiled, etc...) . Should be ok to toss??? Right???
I wonder how often this law is enforced outside of the field?

Re: How do people dispose of tagged animals
Return it to nature I say, Find an out of the way place and Dump it. Good to do on another scouting or hunting trip. Main current area of any local river is a good dumping ground. Avoid the smelly garbage can...your nose and neighbors will thank you.

Re: How do people dispose of tagged animals
I talked to a game officer today that said no OSP officer in their right mind would be snooping around garbage cans looking for wasted game. He did say however that a warrant was served at a place one time recently, and they found a whole deer hanging in the garage that was so rotten the meat was sloughing off. They issued a citation for that(and the judge nailed 'em for it), but then again, it was probably minor compared to what was on their original list anyway.

Re: How do people dispose of tagged animals
I'd throw it in the garbage in a big black bag. If you drive out on any of the Spurs off China Hat Road out of Bend, you'll see an unsightly graveyard of discarded game carcasses, that we should try to avoid.

Re: How do people dispose of tagged animals
The simplest thing to do is Bury them in your garden if you have one.
Or dig a hole anywhere and bury them. The ground will eat them up in a week.
I like to take that stuff and dump it in the woods where I hunt. I have lots of close up opportunities to see game this way.....
I think it's a good thing to recycle. I used do dump all my carcasses in the ocean for the same reason.
