Default Cool Picture

Hey everyone,

Here's a picture of one of my steelhead caught this winter. Not a monster but I think it's a nice picture.

There's actually a little story behind this fish... I caught it in the Alsea but it's fin clips indicate that it is a Siletz summer steelhead. A little late and a little lost! I kept her and the meat was still delicious!

Hey Mike H. Nice fish, stray's happen quite often, alsea-siletz fish that is. Start thinking about a summer steelhead float in may on the siletz. Bring a rod you can cast light stuff with. MIKIE.

I read that the Siletz summer runs are raised at a hatchery on the Alsea and released on the upper Siletz. Did this smolt get loose from the pen? I also read that the Siletz summer runs are the only natural summer runs on the north Oregon coast and are planted throughout the region. Does this fish have more than a clipped adipose?

Another question. What does the Siletz tribe plan on doing with the old Rock Creek hatchery?

The siletz summer steelhead are raised at the Salmon river hatchery. The summers in the Nestucca are siletz stock.
Speaking of straying. I got one in big elk creek a few years ago.
Actually the Alsea has a remenant run of summer steelhead. But all these fish are wild. What few there is.
