Default custom rod supplies

I'm new to this site so I'm not sure what the conversations have been on this topic. With that being said, I wanted to let you guys know about a great place to buy blanks from. It's down in Cresswell, called Glenn Wicks. I've built about 8 rods from them and I'm very pleased with how they turned out. They sell Lamiglass blanks, allstar and cascade. Lamiglass are the cheapest (between $10-20) and the other two are about twice that. They have a great selection, literally thousands of blanks although I will say that you have to look through quite a few sometimes to find a perfectly straight one. The majority of the blanks are costmetic blems from the factory. I will also add that the blanks are a fraction of the cost of what they are at the Lamiglass outlet in woodburn. On average it costs around $40-60 for all the supplies needed, assuming that you don't have anything to start with. anyway, just thought I'd give an FYI for what it's worth.

Cresswell is about 9 miles south of Eugene off I5. I don't have their number handy right now, but if anyone's interested I can post up their number tonight.

I have one of his rods left. Its a good rod. I know a few guys who use them. Just stay away from the Lamiglas seconds. Ive had bad luck with those. The Cascade blanks are good.

Between my fishing buddy and I we have about 10 Wicks rods, we like them a lot. I have broken a couple but they always repair them for free. It is worth the trip just to see his collection of finished rods and blanks.

I disagree with the Lamiglas seconds comment. I have several of them, know of others being used, and there have been no problems thus far. What has happened to make you not trust them?

Glen is a good guy and if you want to buy complete rods you can. I like to pick though the certified pro blanks. Most of the time I will pick out a different tip section or get 2 different tip sections with different actions. You just have to make sure they fit good. Glen also gives rods to the local chapter of the Northwest Steelheaders to raffle off at there monthly meetings. I know several people who have rods from Glen and are very happy with them. You just need to take a good look at what you buy befor you buy it. The price is right you will not beat it. Glen is very good about replaceing anything that breaks. The one I like the most was a old 9'X90hct 15 to 30 found the butt end and found a nice tip to go with it best fall Chinook trolling rod I ever owned.

Mike over at North River told me about Glen. He said he made a great rod for the money. I haven't had a chance to contact him yet. Anyone using any of his rods?

Well where do you want me to start?
I had a 2 piece 9' IM700 turn into a 4 piece on a hook set. I had another heavy lami blank break at the handle when a chinook took a kwik fish. And the kicker was when another light drift rod broke at the ferule when I was casting. Thats why I dont like the Lamiglas seconds.
