SI Eastside report 12-30-2006
After being out of town in my home state "The Republic of Texas" for the Christmas holiday, I had to get out to sauvies for a little killing. Eventhough my plane landed at 3:00 am this morning, my buddy picked me up and we headed to the eastside non reservation line.
Managed to get the last blind on the Eastside, the day started out extremely foggy, alot of geese moving very low, caught glimpses of ducks moving with geese, and cormorants, but otherwise visibility this morning was 50 yds or less.
My first duck opportunity was a nice pintail that just appear from the fog.
As usual, I choked and he lived to fly another day.
Around 10:30 am, the fog started to lift, and I saw a drake and a hen fly around the spread. When I dropped the hen on the first shot, I realized it was a shovelor and let drake go without firing a second shot.
Most of our action occurred between 11-1:00 when we could actually see the ducks, otherwise we where pretty much blind for most of the day.
We both missed a drake that landed in the spread when we jumped him.
It was a good day to be on the Island, the fog never really lifted much when we left at 1:30 pm with only my hen shovelor.
Oh well, maybe monday will shoot better.
