Several years ago I bought a used Arima, 17 foot Sea Chaser (smaller cuddy cabin). It has been a great boat. 8 foot beam, plenty of room to move around and extremely stable and a 6'1" guy can stand upright under the canopy. The guy I bought it from used it in the Columbia for gators and was only selling it to buy a larger one. Arima makes a 19 footer and a 21 footer but you are looking at big bucks for a new one, but they are probably worth it. The wife likes it because the guy threw in a heater for the cold gator days.

I've also thought about an Arima in the 19' open style used, but a lot of them seem to be a little under powered with 70 and 90 hp motors. I'd like a boat that's that heavy to have some ponies to get across the bar, but the Arimas are defintely more available here than the boats I'm looking at on Boat Trader.

You're right:

A 70 or 90 HP motor for the 19 foot would not be enough. I have a 90 hp Johnson on my 17 foot and it is pretty good but any less wouldn't work. One day when I'm rich and famous I'll step up to the 130 HP that I think is the maximum rating. Arima is a fine boat but make sure you are getting the max in power.

Too rich for my blood, I know I might be dreaming for the price range of $12,000 to $15,000, but I'm not in a hurry just looking in case I get the nerve to sell my boat which my be soon or never, it's a big move for me.

That boat has been in there for some time. Go ahead and offer 15...what could go wrong.

Default Florida off shore style boats?

In the future I am thinking of selling or trading my 18ft Alumaweld V8 center console sled for an off shore 18-22 ft type of boat like a small older Grady White or Pro Line. How practical would this type of boat be here in the N.W.? I do'nt use my sled for running rivers too often, I usually anchor for sturgeon, troll and anchor for salmon, shad and so on. I think I may have about $12,000 to $15,000 to spend and I dont want something I'am not happy with and be sorry I did it. So if there are any guys out there with this type of boat please let me know what you think.

Gregotis98, I have many hours in a 22' Grady White. I love the boat except for one thing. It's a walk around console, no windshield. One huge difference between Fla and here is the Ocean. The Pacific is not! You really need the right hand drive with a high windshield not a walk around console type here.

Not an issue in Fla. since the Ocean there is much easier. This is tough water in the NW, gotta love it.

The bend is your friend!

I've fished in a Grady several times. Great boat. I don't know about your price range though. I'm sure they have a website out there. They're made in South Carolina (I think) so I'm sure they've got some boats made for fishing the Atlantic. Atlantic = Hurricanes. Pacific = No Hurricanes. Duh..lol They'll damn sure work with ya I know that, plus I think they do trade-ins with Grady owners.
