Default Knots for \'Tuf-Line\'?

I recently fished with a guide friend who is running Tuf-Line on all of his plug and diver rods. I was impressed with the way it handled when a fish was hooked (no hookset needed when one hits a hotshot). My question is does anyone know what knots are used to tie this stuff to swivels and also directly to mono leaders? I remember him saying that normal mono knots don't work.

When tying to aswivel or clip. I use a palamor, I know how to tie it, but cant spell it. Never had any problems..

I always use what was known as a 'Jimmy Houston' knot. I'm sure it has some real name to it but it is basically an improved clinch knot, but doubled with the loop. I've had swivels fail before the knot has. I've also had the line fail above the knot if it's starting to get kinda skanky. Though the new generation braids are better than the old, they still bear considerable watching!

I learned a good thing last year when fishing for Fall fish with a guide and that is to leave 3/8 to 1/2 of an inch tag off of what ever knot you use and melt the end of it with a lighter or match. This will form a small hard bead on the end of the line that will not slip back thru the knot. These types of lines are great to fish with you can feel everything.

I give the tie-master the thumbs up!!! Haven't tied knots without it since I picked one up from Jim. Fast, easy, strong and works great on both braids and mono.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff

I've been using the Trilene knot with both Tuf-line and Fireline for several years with no problems. Easy to tie and strong. The Palomar knot (as mentioned) is also extremely strong. Make sure you wet it before pulling it up tight and, with the braided stuff, it needs to be pulled down TIGHT!

No Question...and you can call Clancy Holt on this one, he uses Tuf Line.

go to:
www.tie-master.com

This tool and the knot it allows you to tie is simply the finest and stongest and simplest...

Don't even think of tying any other!

I had the pleasure of hearing Rich Padriedzki, expert bobber fisherman and self-proclaimed 'bank maggot' speak a couple of times (rest his soul and may he forgive me for never spelling his name correctly). While not a snappy dresser, he spoke with passion and conviction about a sport he dearly loved.

One of his sponsors was Tuf-Line(tm). Rich claimed that any of the good fishing knots could be used *as long as the line was doubled first.* I have no doubt that he was correct. When I used to use Tuf-Line(tm), however, I always 'insured' the knot with a drop of Super Glue which is a tough process in a driving rain.

Having since swifched to Power-Pro (disclaimer: with whom I have no affiliation nor do I profit from sales), I have found that this newer braid requires no special knots. The Palomar, a favorite with any type of line, has never failed and requires no special treatment.

Power Pro is produced by a long-time textile manufacturer who figured out a way to hard-braid the stuff (three-fiber gel-spun polylpropylene aka 'Spectra' [tm]) so the line is round and consequently has a amaller diameter for the pound-test (less drag, hence less weight necessary)and also has less of a tendancy to cut in or bury itself into a spool of line.

I have fished Tuff from the day it came out . I use a normal knot you would normally use and just double over the line first.I literally have bobber rods with the same bobbers on them from two seasons ago and the knots are as solid as a rock!!! I have never ever broke at the knot and have never had a knot slip out. Mark has seen first hand......no problems Good Luck!!!
