Default I agree with Jay Leno....

"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, "Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

I don't agree with Jay's statement at all. To question whether or not it's a "good time" to take God out of the pledge of allegiance based on timing and what's happening in the current events??? I find it particularly sad myself. How about NEVER, Mr. Leno...NEVER is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance!!! And THAT i'm sure of!!!!

These kind of statements make me think...I wonder if he'd even question removing God from the Pledge if everything in this world was peachy... Hmmmmm...makes ya think don't it.

Could it be we're experiencing these horiffic events due to most of this world already having removed God from their everyday lives...

FireCat,

I understand what Jay was trying to say...however, I do have a problem with the way he said it!

He made it sound like (to me anyway) that if all these catastrophic events weren't happening, that he wouldn't even QUESTION the act of taking God out of the Pledge. This is what startles me, because so many people now days use God as a krutch. In the bad times, they pray and seek God for his will to be done in their situation to make it better. However, in the good times when things are going great, they tend to forget about him and totally put him on the backburner. The Bible says to seek him and his will continuously, not just when you have troubles and problems that you need fixed.

Sorry about the mis-understanding...

Do people truly beleive that a Gods ego is so fragile that They would kill thousands of innocent people because of a word in a pledge,or if there are a million godless people, that it would some how be just to kill the thousands of faithfull in their midst.
I find it VERY hard to believe that any God could be, or is that petty.

I also understand what he was trying to say and I have no problem with it!

At least he had the guts to say it.

I also agree with Bartman. God does not "need' to be in the Pledge except that it may make us feel good. I'm glad it is in there, I remember when it was put in. I was going to parochial school and eveyone thought it was a great idea. But it was emphasized that it would not take the place of daily prayer. No more so than "In God We Trust" on the money we use.

"The First Amendment of the Bill of Rights guarantees us the Freedom OF Worship, not Freedom FROM Worship. By eliminating the phrase under God from the Pledge, the government is saying that the values of my children as practicing Christians are less important than the values of children who are atheist. All children are valuable. Why not let them have the option of what version of the pledge they would like to say?

What is the Pledge of Alleginance? Some say it's a part of religion and some say it isn't at all. Well, as a veteran who served for our country either here at home or across the oceans, the flag stood for the courage and blood of all of the soldiers of the new America, but for the blood spilled during the battles that came down. Red, white and blue stood for their honor for freedom. Colonial War, Civil War, the battle with the Indians, World War 1, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War and the Iraq War. But in every war fought, all of our soldiers, and I have seen this first hand, would cry out for God and mom when they were dying.

We have, by our tolerance of those in our country who oppose the very heart and soul of this great nation, have allowed the creation of a fifth column that is trying to weaken our will and determination to follow in the footsteps of our predecessors who have fought, bled, and died to preserve our freedom. Their politically correct cynicism and lack of faith in our representative democracy, must be opposed and defeated by shedding the light of freedom and our faith in a supreme being into the dark corners from which they snipe and plan the downfall of our nation. As a very wise and somewhat humble man once said during the darkest days of WW II, 'Either put your heart into America or get your butt out.'"

I pledge to one nation under GOD under MEANS this nation has a authotity over it and that is AMERICA could not exsist, without the awknowledgement of God or God. so when that awknowledgement is taken away , then I no longer pledge my alegance to a nation, that has taken away the very foundation of its Birth.

But Firecat, that part of the pledge was only added a handfull of decades ago, and the country was still here. I do have to add,I to am personally thankfull that the A god is mentioned in the pledge, but I also know that what is truly important is the Divine in our lifes, not in some phrase or pledge.

Many of the natural disasters in our world are simply a fact of life. Hurricanes, tornados, fires, mudslides, flooding, and thunderstorms have occured are occuring and will continue to occur. The natural world we live in has little to do with God being in our pldge of allegence.

Sorry, but this thread isn't about sharing and supporting each other spiritually. If it were on LIG, we'd have to close it for the partisan nature of the thread. Please re-visit the rules of this forum at the top of this one and show some respect for the intent of the chapel. Thanks
