Default Siletz Saturday-02-17-01

Drifted around town saturday and we kicked fish butt. My girlfriend Hayley caught her biggest steelhead she was a chrome native hen 38 inches long it took her about twenty minute's to land her. I got to get a digital camera, should of seen the look on hayley's face when we let her go. We caught seven out of eight fish we hooked we also released one native buck and three hatchery hen's one of the hen's had spawned. The two unlucky fish we had to kill were hooked too deep and bleeding all over the place . I borrowed a scale from another drift boat at the take-out just to weigh the two we killed , the boy weighed 12lbs and the girl 8lbs. Hayley's hen dwarfed the big one. The two guy's at the take out asked me for a bobber lesson-tech tip's because they wanted to know how we were getting these fish. Had to show em you know, pass it on type stuff beside's they gave me a ride to my rig. Wish I was there today , but like my doctor said I can't row till may--NOT. MIKIE

Boy Mikie, from what I had heard it was REAL slow on the Siletz Saturday. I know guys who fished above you and below you, and you must've caught as many fish as all other boats on all the drifts combined!

Tight Lines,

Yes Mikie, with the numbers of fish you are able to catch when the fishing is otherwise slow, you could probably book yourself solid if you decided to take up guiding. We floated both of the two runs below you Saturday and landed one 8lb chrome buck. 3 or 4 boats asked how we did, and when we asked back they all hadn't had a bump. We didn't see a fish hooked all day. Just for my info, aren't most bobber fish hooked fairly shallow in the mouth? I don't bobber fish much, but if it hooks fish that deep maybe I won't do it around native time... Joe

I really do believe Mikie. I wish that I could catch fish like he can. He showed some of my friends the bobber technique. They said he knows what he is doing, so I can't say anything bad about the guy.

What I neglected to tell you guys was how well we did yesterday. I was going to keep it a secret, but I will let the truth be known. We also made the town drift. My frat buddy friends were excited to go after Mikie showed them the bobber techniques. To make a long story short, we hooked 16 and landed 11. One of them was a native hen that went 22 pounds. Luckily she wasn't hooked too deep and made it softly back into the water. Bobber fishing may just save a somewhat dismal season for us. Thanks again Mikie!!!!!
P.S. By the way Kwiky, Mikie is the real deal because Mark Sehl wouldn't have someone guiding for him that didn't know what they were doing.

So firetiger, I see you edited your post above to remove some of the negative crap you had to say about Mikie, and now you're completely switching tunes and patting him on the back. I believe nothing that comes out of your mouth, or at least anything that makes it onto this bulletin board. I realize you probably do not want to get kicked off of this board again, so here is a little advice: quit the b.s. postings like the ones I mentioned above, and try to be at least partially truthful when you decide to post about fishing. Looks like it is going to be tough for you, though.

Hey Kwicky, thank's for the back-up you got yourself a thumb's from me. You apparently know what it's like to pull in-to the take-out with blood all over you're boat, when a lot of other guy's got squat. Thank's again. MIKIE.

Hey FT, if you want to be taken seriously on this BB I suggest you don't post that you essentially got lucky to get one fish, along with the other boats, and then turn around and post you actually hooked 16 on a slow day. Whether that is spam, or more likely a discrediting mock of Mikie's hot reports on slow days, it's not going to get you where you want to go here. ...

And Mikie, you are having a seemingly banner season despite low fish returns; definitely on the hot days you report anyway. That's fine and I don't mind hearing about it. Like others here I've had good season's before too. Not this year though. Anyone can report their fishing success, or lack of, however they like. For whatever it's worth, I will tell you what I have done. This fall and winter season I made a number of reports that I got skunked. I figure most people here assume I know how to fish so I am not concerned with reporting skunks. What this does is let fishers know where the fishing is a little slow. Another thing it does is lend credence to when I truthfully report a good day. There hasn't been many of those this season; for me only a few decent days and one bomber day with Mark in December. That day was so good that I hesitated to post about it because it sounded like a lie. But Mark posted it so I added to the thread. We both got very hot on stacked up biting steelhead and hooked over 30 fish, landing somewhere in the mid-20's. This was in only a few hours too. It's a true but unusual story. If I had only been posting about my good days I think guys would have scoffed at that report. In light of reporting several skunk trips this season I don't think they would make that mistake. My $0.02 opinion is that if you are going to make fishing reports, which are welcomed help to each other on Ifish here, let's report the bad with the good to help with the sometimes difficult decision of whether to put off the "to do's" or go fishing. Reporting nothing but hot fishing days may cross a fine line into boasting? That's another debate. - RT

Hey joe maybe we should have a little tech float, frog water fishing 101 . Talk to the pratt boy's from the alsea, they are from corvallis I showed them a few pointer's. As far as hooking those fish deep, it was from the size of the rig I was using-too small the buck we killed had already swallowed someone's else'a rigging. Book myself solid not did the guide thing in the late eighties early ninety's not for me. Talk to mark sehl about me or bobber fishing he taught me alot about the right and wrong's about that aproach. MIKIE.

Mikie, do you use a long rod for bobber fishing?

Firetiger, I am willing to bet you are the same dude who got kicked off of this board a month or two ago for your confrontational behavior concerning Mikie. So far, you have wanted to floattube down from Moonshine on the Siletz, take a wave runner up to Moonshine or Barclay's on the Alsea........ what's next?

FYI firetiger, I was not attempting to slam or discredit Mikie in my first post. I don't know him, so have nothing to base an opinion of the truthfulness of his posts on besides what I know about current fishing conditions on these rivers. Fact is, fishing is a far, far cry from good right now; actually, it flat out sucks.

Hey R.T. Boasting- I think NOT. I was stating the fact that my girlfriend caught her biggest steelhead of her life, and we had a excellent day on the siletz river. I'm more prone to be positive in my report's- ie help other's out. I don't mind passing on the reel truth. It seem's to bother other's but all I have to say , It's there loss. Skunk day's are exactly that , on the back burner. I prefer to go with the good side of the sport. Thank's for you're time . MIKIE .

Mikie,
R.T. made a good point when he was talking about adding rivers to our list of "do's." According to every one of your reports any place that you go to is a "to do." You never seem to have a slow day. I will admit that I am having a damn frustrating season. If you really want to offer some good advice why don't you tell us what the heck you are using underneath that bobber. I honestly do want to believe your reports. I fish a lot and know a lot of people that fish seven days a week. When I tell them about this reports they laugh and say "IMPOSSIBLE!"
If you want to add something really useful, why don't you post a topic that breaks down some of the pointers on bobber fishing. I don't that it isn't too difficult. I am begging to know how you are having such success.
