Default Ling Part 2

Went ling fishing out Newport wednesday and thursday and did good, quite a few just under 24" and 2 over 28" & 30", and an easy limit of bass. Just went south about 5 miles toward Seal Rock in about 40' to 50' of water. I tried herring for a bit with little success, then went to a white twin tail grub with 4 oz, and started to knock them out! I also tried the live bait thing for a bit but did not do any good so went back to the grub and continued to do good. There were about 4 other boats and they also limited out easily.
My question though is about the Rock Pile - Stonewall Bank, is it worth going out there in the summer when the ocean is nice for other spieces and larger bass? I only have a 18' center console sled with out much V to it, but would like to run out there sometime if it is worth it I can make it on fuel, just if it gets rough it will be a long slow ride back. Also do people catch halibut there when the season is open to all depths?

Are you willing to travel 24 miles off shore in a 18'boat? I haven't the nerve to travel that far off shore,,,there is a reef just off the north end of the North Jetty that puts out decent bass, and quick return if the water turns sour. If I can't see land I am too far out...color me chicken...Steve
