Mud lake is wadable. I was on ML#4 yesterday. It came up about a foot while I was there. Water level on the blind maker was about 6-7 inches from the bottom.

So, does anyone know how to find this information without posing a question to the board? Can you get an idea of SI waterlevels based on the Columbia river levels? Can you get CR levels for that area of the river?

Yes!

Go back to main ifish.net, click on "River Levels" (kinda "hidden" up in r/h corner of page in Gold Letters)

When the next page opens, click on "NOAA River Levels"

When that page opens, click on the little box with "St. Helens" by it on the map.

A river level graph will appear that shows the recently past, current, and projected water levels for about +2 days.

So, what you guys are saying is that it's a boat only show out there right now? A bank bound guy like myself won't be able to hunt the west side at all on foot?

Aaron,

It will be a game day decision if Ron/Rob at the shack make it a boat only show, but I doubt they will.

It will be pretty deep to set decoys on Mud Lake if the hydro reading is at 9.0ft or so. To put it in perspective, on ML#4 yesterday it was 6-8 inches below my waders 40 yards out from the blind and the hydro reading were 7.5ish. At the predicted 9.32 at 10:00am tomorrow..it will make it tough to set/pick up decoys or get shot birds by foot. A dog would be very helpful for sure. When I hunted ML#4 on 12/16 the hydro was 11 ft and it was a boat only show.

I think you will be able to hunt most blinds, but it will be deep, you will need to set decoys in close, and you may need to time your pick up with the tide. Your biggest issue will be dealing/retrieving birds you drop.

Good luck and let me know how it goes!

Jim

Anytime its over about 7.5 on the NOAA river level, its a boat only show. No sense in going over there, pulling a chip, taking a good blind, and not being able to retrieve a cripple just because they said its not to deep to set decoys 20 yards out. Why risk it? Thats why the eastside has dyked in units so you can hunt over there as well.

Get a boat, dog and waders and don't worry about it.
