Your call, but that sounds good to me as long as guys that fish it a lot, such as Grant and Joe, think there will be enough fish up there by June 2nd. I think Grant's point about the lack of snowpack to help keep the streams up makes early June a much better bet than latter in June. And I think Saturdays are better than Sundays. June 2nd works for me. Is anyone interested in bar-bqing in my back yard the night before? We don't have any nudies bars around here so you may have to settle for drinking to much and sleeping in my back yard. My back yard can handle several tents if that helps anyone.

And Jeff, any kind of fun thing with groups of Ifishers out on the Columbia for springers sounds fun. Gee, how about an Ifish hogline? Fun in the sun. I'm not a hogliner normally, but with so many fish coming up the river and having it open for the first time in about 3 decades above I-5 would make one of those real fishy! I just don't know good hogline places out in the Columbia for them, but I'm sure lots of Ifishers do. That would be great fun too! Good idea. - Steve

One question, which section of river were you thinking of floating....Wiley creek down or to Waterloo?

June 2nd sounds great! RT...trust me, there will be enough fish. Last year my first trip was April 14. Took home two nice summer steelies that day. River should be chuck full by early June.

I have room for one or two fellow ifisher's in my boat.

June 2 sounds great. Prime time. I will look forward to meeting you folks until then. I wouldn't worry about low water. In fact this info should be zipper but my best day on the S Santiam was when they lower from normal summer flow of 2000 cfs to about 750 so they could put boards on the irrigation dam. Only had to jump out of the boat once from the dam down to Jacks. Almost every boat had two fish in it including mine.

My boat has managed a fish or two the first weekend in June for the past few years, and I need a couple of good luck ifishers in the front to keep that streak alive (preferably out-of-towners so I don't have to worry about giving away secret spots ). And if any of you out of town guys need a place to crash on friday night. I have a motor home a couple people can crash in. Im only about 20 minutes from the put in, And I have plenty of room for parking.
Grant, the bbq idea sounds good. I will bring some o my wifes world famous bacon wrapped teriyaki steelhead.
There is always a bunch of fish in the river in late may and early june. Getting into fish shouldnt be a problem.

Revolutionary idea!!!! What about camping on National Forest land somewhere Friday and Saturday night? Lots of spots within 20 minutes of the put-in, my wife could come and watch our stuff (shotgun in hand; no I'm not kidding)so it would all be cool while we're gone. Heck, bring your wives/girlfriends if you're so inclined. My wife doesn't drink--but I do my best to make up for her. They would also make EXCELLENT shuttle drivers. Have gear, will travel. That sounds great, a little BBQ,a cold beer and some new friends after a great day of fishing sounds great. Yeh, I here ya about the bankies, I just take my buddy he kind of looks like a rotwiller so they don't say much to us either. I've got to tell you a funny one from a couple of years back. We put in at Wiley and started down behind another boat. One of the bankies got all worked up at the guy in front of us because he didn't quite have his drift finished before they started down. This guy started getting really irate, shouting and theatening to throw rocks at them. All of the sudden the guy in the driftboat just pulls back his inside oar and with one swift stroke just soaks this guys A$$, I mean drenched him. He didn't say another word and I was just laughing my a$$ off as I went by, funnier than hell. Talk with you later.
