Default Visual of rigging a prawn and herring needed

I thought the satire was funny, but I don't think salmon have a sense of humor. In fact, I KNOW THEY DON'T! The only thing funny to them is the sight of my improperly rigged offering doing all the wrong things. During the off season, I have paid dearly to prepare for the chase. New boat, motor, and truck. Can't afford to do the right thing and go with a guide. So would someone kindly give this fishin fool a few pointers?

Phuny,

Last years spring chinook STS, I believe it was the feb-march issue. Had some great info on rigging herring, anchovies and prawns. With some nice pics too. I've been rigging prawns using RT's method though. It did fine for us last year, though it caught more summer runs than springers. Blame that on user error. Call Amato at (503) 653-8108 and get that issue. I can't find my copy anywhere. I'd pretty much worn it out when it came up missing, that article was great.

There are many ways to rig both prawns and herring. The ones you use depend on how and where you're fishing (trolling, backbouncing, backtrolling, plunking, anchor fishing). You're headed in the right direction in trying to learn different rigging and presentation techniques because presentation is everything. Although it's tough to explain these techinques on a message board, there have been some good discussions on this topic. I don't have the threads bookmarked, but if you do some searches on ifish for topics that contain "herring", "prawns" you'll find some very good information.

You can also find a lot of good information on this topic in salmon fishing books you can buy at the local sporting goods stores.

The title is "herring vs. Prawns" if the link does not work use the search feature on the bb.

Scroll down the nearby "Prawns vs Herring in the Wilamette?" thread. There are tech posts and a rigup drawing post there also. And while that riggup is dealy for springers when you get a good roll action on them, as Ramstrong said they also are good for summer steelhead. - RT
