Embarcadero in Newport
Yeah(!), I'm about to sign on a permanent First Mate here in a month or so, and I'm looking for a good close in port to spend a couple of nights as nuptials.
I've always heard that the Embarcadero there in Newport was a pretty first cabin outfit but I'd like to hear some reviews, from those who have gone before.
I hear they have a private moorage for guests, is this true? After the money I'm having to fork out for the party, we will be needing to catch our own food!
Wishing you calm seas and good fishing!

Re: Embarcadero in Newport
Congrats Mo!!!
Yes, Embarcadero is a neat place with great views of the Bay. This time of year can be good for crabbing and you might jig for herring too. Great seafood restaurants along the waterfront and the Oregon Coast Aquarium is fun, too. Yes the Embarcadero has moorage for the boat, but why??

Re: Embarcadero in Newport
When it first opened the Embarcadaro was first class.I have been there just about every year since it opened. The service and and the condition of the rooms has gone down hill. I'll be going elsewhere this year when I go get my summer/fall herring supply.Notice that you can always get a room on a weekend. That should tell you something.
I was lucky to get the girl i got.On the way to Manzanita for our honeymoon she let me stop at the Wilson and catch a beautiful S.Steelhead.It took me three casts.Hope you get a girl like that. For a honeymoon trip to the Coast I would strongly reccomend oceanfront.Trust me if it ain't cool you WILL hear about it in the future again & again & again & again.Hopefully it will rain all the time your at the coast and you will never see daylight except for meals.Take lots of bubbly and spring for the good food. This ain't the time to get cheap. You haven't meet anyone with as much fishing time as I have had in the last 27 years. Thanks to my dear wife.Just remember these 2 words and use them often untill you get your new boat. " yes dear ". You don't really have to comply with her wishes, just say " yes dear " and you willl get more fishing time in.Good Luck to you both.

Re: Embarcadero in Newport
The new place next door to the Embarcadero looks pretty nice. It was under construction when we stayed at the Emb. last summer. I'd go there first as the Emb. rooms are ok, but new would be better....plus you can keep an eye on your sled at the moorage.

Re: Embarcadero in Newport
OK, so the thread is evolving...
For fly fishers, the Steamboat Inn on the North Umpqua is hard to beat. If you reserve early you can choose between a private cabin on a cliff over the river or the honeymoon cabin up in the pines. We found the riverside cabin everything we hoped for. The meals in the lodge are among the best in Oregon. On the first night of my honeymoon I was granted an hour of fishing time. I hooked 5 nates, landing 4 of them all on the same fly. The fly has been retired as a souvenir of the best day in my life.

Re: Embarcadero in Newport
I'll echo what has been said... 15 years ago the Embarc was top notch... now it's a sad shodow. Rooms are far from top notch. They are marginally clean and very worn.
Rode hard and put away wet fits. I'd seriously sonsider other alternatives... I know my wife would have been VERY disapointed had that place been our honeymoon nest...
I would recommend the Inn at Arch Rock in Depot bay... marina facilities available in the harbor if you want. Or forget everything else but isolated romance on a secluded section of coast and book yourself into the Morning Star B&B in Yachats.
Many ideas, limited time to post! YAHH!

Re: Embarcadero in Newport
If you want something fairly close you might try the Sand Lake B & B. Nice place with great food and real close to Tillamook and the Nestucca. Oh yeah, kinda romantic too.

Congrat's...I just spent a week at the Adobe in Waldport 1-800-522-3623, Great view of the ocean 5 star food, a little spendy, if you want to park your boat, Sawyers Landing up Bay from Newport about 3-4 miles ask for Bonnie 541-265-3907 or 888-216-3907. Bring lots of money....3 crab / 37.50...Steve

Re: Embarcadero in Newport
I knew I could count on you guys! Thanks for the help. Just brought the little lady back from New Mexico (she had to meet her new in-laws).
At worse case scenario, we'll hold up in Yachats(thanks for that one Steve)and rent some fishing videos (YEAH RIGHT!!).

Re: Embarcadero in Newport
The Inn at Spanish Head in Lincoln City is very nice. Great views. Pool and Hot tub almost right on the beach.
