Default Help! Tunes Solutions?

I have a CD player in my boat. During my last TUNA! trip of '06, the water was a bit lumpy and caused the CD to skip quite a bit. So, I'm looking for some reasonably affordable ideas. Here's what I've come up with so far:

1. Replace the deck with a higher quality deck that is less susceptable to skipping while crashing through waves.
2. IPOD with an FM modulator
3. New deck with a USB port and use thumb drives
4. XM or Serius

There are a couple considerations: 1. whatever the solution is, it needs to be water proof and able to be protected from the salt; and 2. I need to keep the cost down. I'd rather put money into trim tabs, gear and other things than put $500 to $1000 into a sound system.

What do you guys do that's fairly reasonable?

Thanks

CrF

Been wondering the same. The skipping does not make for friendly listening.

I got a deck that has 1gig of storage on the faceplate. I got 150 songs on it.
It's a Sony I got at Outrageous Audio. I think it was $300.
Another alternative is deck with an Aux. input on the front for an Ipod.
If you have play cd's find a deck with the longest read forward that you can find.

I have an amplifier in my center console and plug the Ipod directly in to the amp with a set of $15 cables and a $5 headphone adapter from radio shack. You can get marine rated amps at the online auction sites for under a hundred dollars and any of the ipod like devices will work. I have a video ipod but hate taking it on the boat, so I bought one of the cheap 1gig flash drive mp3 players for about $40 online. I found that these are a lot easier to program too, you just plug it into your USB port then drag and drop the music right onto the device. I haven't had any issues with this system and it's quite a bit easier to install than trying to flush mount a head unit.

I have the same problem. I'm going with the iPod. I'm looking to get the new Serius because my buddies are complaining about me always wanting to watch the race on Sundays .

Just put a new Sony CD player in my boat, haven't experianced the skip yet but I do always use my XM thru the FM on the radio. Have an old Roady with all the attachments I'd let go cheap. PM me if interested. Love that XM.

I've been an ipod user for two years, and love it. FM modulator doesn't work....engine noise interfers, and it sucks power from the ipod. I went on ebay and bought a new (to me) cd player/stereo with an auxillary input plug. With that, you can use the $5 radio shack mini-plug to mini-plug cable to hook the ipod to the stereo through the headphone jack on the ipod. I also use a car charger to keep the ipod juiced up. Works really well. I usually use my nano, it is so light it doesn't bounce or slide around much. You just need a good place to stick the ipod on your dash where it won't get in the way or get wet/hurt. Works great!! and you can use your custom fishing playlists!
