Default What is a Tule?

I was just reading the "Fall Run" Thread. One thing I have always wondered, what exactly is a Tule Chinook.

A tule is a chinook strain that for the most part is low river destined and enters freshwater at a more developed sexual maturation stage. They have more pronounced secondary sexual maturity characteristics such as; large spots, large adipose fin, bronzish color, canine teeth, pronounced kype (jaw), and excess slime. They can have these characteristics in the ocean as well. For the most part the meat is pink to white and is inferior in table fare compared to coho or brights.

I've learned to really look closely at the upriver brights I catch, because sometimes it's easy to mistake a Tule for an upriver bound fish. But when you cut into them, you surely notice a difference. They're not even good smoked, in my opinion.
