Default Norwest Special by lamiglas

Anybody tried one of these rod's. Bought one of these for my girlfriend at joe's . The rod is eight foot six rated 8-12lb. Set it up with a shimano grinder and it is really sweet. This rod feel's as sensitive as my GL3 and cost less than 100 buck's. I love my loomis rod's but this lamiglas rod is impressive. Anyone else give this model a try yet? MIKIE

Hey Mikie. Lamiglas still makes a very good rod, especially for the money. They do everything a Loomis will do. I don't own one, but I'm sure The Norwest Special will work great. I fondled one at the show and I liked it, just don't need anymore rods.

Mikie. I bought 2 from Fishermans an 8-12 & a 10-20 and they are nice rods for the money. Like Big Willie, I did'nt need any more rods, but Fisherman's had them for $59.00. At the same time, G.I. Joe's had Quantum reels for $19.00 so I got two of those. For $80.00 each, I got a great rod and an O.K. reel setup. I had Fubby Stucker with me at the time, and even he bought one of those rods and he is the most picky person on gear I know. That is an endorsement in itself. He is like that cereal ad that uses your name. He hates everything.

I still like my Loomis 1024c and Curado setup the best. The Lamiglass is probably a better value though. They all catch fish.

Last time I looked at the Norwest Specials the warranty was only for one year. The 1000's and up are lifetime. I have a 1306T G1000 and am very pleased with it, no comparison to the IMX STR 1082S that I built last fall, but still a good rod.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff

Mikie,

I have fished with my NW Special 8-12 for 4 years now without and problems, good sensitivity and brought in up to 18lb chums with it. For the money I do love it. Though I just got a Loomis for Chistmas my Lamiglas pulls plugs just fine.

Good luck

Thank's for all you're input guy's , I'm really impressed with this rod. My girlfriend really love's it , she's already caught a couple steelie's with it . I still have a couple of the older lamiglas esprit series rod's from many moon's ago . One of them is a 12-25 rated chinook special and the other is a kenai killer 15-30 yes this old rod is actually still doing it's thing it was made before the telephone pole theory of kenai killer's. Thank's again for your input. MIKIE.

I've owned a couple of g-1000's for probally 12 or so years now and I finally broke one last fall, my fault, didn't have the top half of the rod fully planted when I set the hook on a beautiful snag and cracked the ferral. Haven't sent it in yet. Very good rods.

I might be wrong, but aren't the Norwest series made in Mexico and rebadged as Lamiglass? My freind owns a lamiglass that says, made in Mexico and I believe it was a norwest.

Mikie,
I've had the 8-12 for 2 years now and it has treated me very nice. It only has a one year warranty, but is still quality.
Tshickam,
I believe the blanks are made in the US, they just slap cheaper components on them. At least that's what I gathered from their website.

I have one that I just broke. I shipped it back to get it repaired. Should be hearing back from Lamiglas next week. Nice rod. Works great with the Shimano Stradic. Caught alot of fish on it. It was a birthday present from my wife a couple of years ago. My first graphite rod.

Hey Mikie

Bought one last year. Broke while casting spinners on the hoh. Junk in my book, though I do like the lamiglass 1000 series. Have a kenia special that I love. Just my 99$ worth.

No complaints from me on my rod. I fished with it for silvers on small rivers and it worked great where my longer rods couldn't go. Still though the 1000 series is a better rod. I have my 5500 mounted on mine and can do some serious yarding with it.

I had two Northwest Specials till someone stole one out of my truck, but I have been very happy with their performance. My favorite combo though is a 9'6 Lami. certified pro with a curado. Sling a tiny slinky a long ways.
