Freddys will have it for 6.99 sometimes, I will run down if I see it in the Sunday paper, but it sells out pretty fast.

Re: King Crab!!
I was just having this discussion with my son We're pretty lucky here in the Northwest. We can get fresh, not frozen Dungeness when we want it. But the King crab is always frozen. I wonder what fresh King tastes like? Previously frozen Dungeness is not nearly as good as the fresh. Do you suppose King is like that too? Of the two, we both prefer fresh Dungeness, but I do like to get King as a treat sometimes.
No pun intended, but I guess that's food for thought! What do you guys think?

Not in my opinion. I like Dungeness but I would trade 10 pounds of Dungeness for 1 pound of the King I just like the flavor more.

I refuse to buy advertised fresh dungees unless Im at pike place or some other seafood market, and if available live I'm all over that option, adding 1 cup of seasalt to the water for cooking.
Safeway etc are usually undersalted and bland or dried out of sorts and leave me to ponder just how fresh is fresh when at the supermarket.
I take the frozen king crab legs and put in large 2 gallon bags in fridge to thaw over a couple days, no re heating, as they dry out and lose their flavor...let sit at room temp for 30min prior to serving with Hot garlic butter for dipping!!!

Re: King Crab!!
Just polished off 5# last night. King is definetly better espesiaily fresh. Had some once in AK. Not to mention the oysters out of Prince William Sound are awsome. I do like to steam the crab a few minutes just to warm up some. Happy Holidays!

Re: King Crab!!
The Kings are definitely better fresh than the one's found frozen. Cook in the same salty water as Dungies to get a great flavor. Nothing purchased is a good as you can do yourself. When the Kings are still warm, you can shake the meat right out of the leg ! Easy to eat way too much. Don't forget the Alaskan Amber too.

Re: King Crab!!
Bounty from the sea is incompareable IMHO.
Comparing Dungies to Kings is Apples and Oranges.(which I like both apples and oranges), as I do Kings and Dungies.
Dungies are wonderful, and we can get them most of the year, and make great party favors.
King Crab frozen is good, but is way good fresh, which we don't get much of here. I have buddies that bring it home, but is always been froze, but is still delicious.
When the Kings roll into town..............we feast, and wait for the next feast. Dungies cooked in wine, are OMG great anytime.
anyway.............It's all good!

Re: King Crab!!
You know I don't like King crab but I don't know if it is because my wife did not like it or what.
May have to try some soon to find out for sure for myself.

Steaming is the only way to go to reheat crab IMO.
I do like to be the one to do the cleaning and cooking of freshly caught limits of dungeness crab. Can't let those loose legs and claws go to waste.
