pike
I went pike fishing once in idaho and found it enjoyable. Is there anywhere in oregon where I could target them? If not what is the closest lake or river with pike in it?

Re: pike
Lake Merwin has them... They were planted to control the pike minnow population.

Re: pike
Something I've wondered about since arriving in Oregon is why there aren't any pike. For as wide spread as they are through Alaska and Canada, and then through the Midwest and East coast, and even some species of pickerel well into the south, why is it that Washington, Oregon, and California are virtually empty of them? Heck, they're even found across most of Europe and northern Asia.

That was an honest question, why aren't they here naturally when the rest of their range is so extensive and includes many similar habitats.

Re: pike
Hmm that is a good question.
My answer, which wasn't obviously what you were looking for, is still somewhat accurate as far as the actual living population here goes. They treated a few lakes in the NW back in the day (and probably still do) to kill planted N.Pike to protect salmon/steelhead, etc.
Anyone got an answer for the native range?

I think Idaho is the best your going to do.Pike are fun.they tend to damage many a bass lure. Here is a pic of a 8lber.I also hooked a 12 the same day on a spinner bait, but my didnot get a pic of it.These fish came out of Lake Champlain.

That's probably a question for The Creator.

Well since that's not likely to happen anytime soon, I was more hoping someone who's a biologist or similar could tell us that something like the Missoula flood or other natural occurring phenomena is what kept pike out of of Oregon and Washington.
But odds are we'll never know.
