Default Goosin\'

Hunted near Baskett Slough today (like right on the fence line) and managed one cackler for a half a box of shells. Five minutes before shooting time the sky above me was full of low birds but I resisted temptation. Sure enough, about a mile to the south one group of guns went off. Then, almost like it was the signal to go there was a group of guns to the west that unloaded also. I'm damn sure it was 5 minutes early or I would have done the same. The worst part about it all is that just before the last and probably most promising flock of birds set wing along comes a stater down the fence line to give me the full check. He was a nice guy but it seems like he could've taken a knee in the bushes 'till the birds passed . Of course he didn't hear any of the early shooters either...

Sorry to hear it Salmonator. I live a stones throw from Baskett. We have been regularly harrassed (I say this because we obey the law) by Staters and Cadets who walk across private property through the middle of the field to check us. I always thought there was a law that said something to the effect of "they cannot interfere with your hunt". Got kind of fired up last time and told him the landowner doesn't like trespassers, and I don't appreciate people who walk around in plain sight and flare my birds. Told him not to come out again unless he has probable cause. He just looked at my license and said "have a nice day" for the fifth time this year. Interestingly, I saw him pull up yesterday in some trees and put the spotting scope up. I think he thought I wouldn't see him, but I don't miss much. I stared right back at him through my binoc's, he waved and drove off. He can stare all he wants, and check me when I'm done--but I'm tired of having him and his Cadet boy foul up my hunts. Maybe he got the message. With the exception of a few days, it's been tough this year. Good Luck.

Holding up your tag on top of a one finger salute would have been funnier to me but, your response was a bit safer.

Sorry to hear that Joe. However my last hunt we couldn't even get a low fly-by. The dekes are away for the season and the boat's been cleaned out. Now to lube the reels and seriously get back to the fish.

You ever make it down for the Yaquina sturgies?
