Default Fishing the famed Kenai River

These men landed these three fish on the Kenai on July 4th of last year, not a bad day. 50#, 38# and 32# and these are the first run fish, not even the hogs that come for the second run in later July.

Don't wait until the last minute to book your trip, things are filling up quickly. I do have a couple opening still left for the last part of July when the hogs come in. Chuck would love to get you a 67#er like he did for one of my guests last year, (look under the Lodge on the discussion board to see a picture). Tight lines, Kim

I've heard of the Kenai River too Kim. It is famous, but nobody ever says where it's at. Someone told me once but I'll be darned if I can remember. Sounds like Nebraska? Oh I know, it's Arkansas. For down south those are darn nass feesh!

Hey, I just saw under your moniker that I was right; it says Clam Gulch, AK = Clam Gulch, Arkansas

Ill be there in july for 10 to 15 days. I will be fishing unguided using a driftboat. Would the Kasilof be a better bet?

WW, if you are going to be there for a couple weeks you can fish both of them, and concentrate on the one with the best water/fish conditions; and puttin' out the big feesh. The 2 rivers aren't far apart. - RT

willierower; RT is right both rivers are great, and not far apart. My personal favorite in a drift boat is the Kasilof, everyone else is fishing the Kenai. There is a great second run of kings on that river and it is a very pleasant and unpressured trip during that time. I would be glad to drift it with you your first time to show you the holes, I don't know everything but can share with you what I do know.

Fishing the Kenai will take some patience on your part, but what is in your favor is you can fish Monday when no motors are allowed at all. Plus you can fish earlier than the guides who are restricted to a 6:00 a.m. start and a 6:00 p.m. stop time. Holy cow, can you imagine a 65# king at the end of your line dragging you around in a drift boat, it would be your fishing dream come true!!!

Lots of options for you, give me a call if I can help you in any way. Kim

Kim,
I will probably give you a call when Im up your way. I will be up there around July 7th or so. I will have access to an 18' drift boat with a 15 horse kicker and a pickup to haul it around.
My friend moved to Kenai in july and is still trying to learn the fisheries. Any help would be much appreciated.

Fishing in Alaska is so complex ...

1. Go where the fish are
2. Put a hook in the water

oh, go to Wal-Mart and get your license first!
