Springer Plunking with the 3yr olds.
OK fellow fishermen, help me out here. There's no way I can take two 3 year olds out Steelheading with me but I was thinking mayber I could get away with plunking for Springers somewhere around Sauvies Island or Oregon City. Anybody have ideas on where I could accomidate the needs of the little guys and still have a fair chance at hooking a fat chrome springer? E-mail me if you're afraid of attracting undue attention to some particular Spot.
Thanks Guys/Gals

You may need to bring your own rock, but a lot of fish get beached at Meldrums bar each year. Depending where you are in the park, you could feed the ducks, and look for agates while waiting for the bell to ring on the pole.

Spot,
You might check out my post below on lower columbia plunking. I would suggest Prescott beach park just before rainier. Nice sand beach, and you can let them sleep in the vehicle when they get tired of playing around.
Good Luck

I'm disappointed
I read this post because I though I would finally learn how to rig up a three year old as bait. I can understand bringing my own rock..I have tried that and feeding them to the ducks sounds good also.
Keep the Ideas coming

Re: Springer Plunking with the 3yr olds.
Spot, Just remember that if those kids have rods in the water they need tags and they need to be able to reel in their fish if they were to get one on. I was accused of fishing with 2 rods one time down at Meldrum bar since my boy was just 6 years old and barely able to crank his salmon rod. I made sure that when he casted out I helped him. I also helped him reel in when it was time to check our lines. He had his tag and was able to land his first steelhead a nice 6 pounder. It reminds me that I once saw a guy at the black top hole fishing with some little kids using sturgeon rods. Those kids couldnt even pick up those rods let alone reel them in. So you'd have to say that guy was fishing with 4 rods!!!! Again'st the law in my book!! The kids need to have fun but with the proper equipment. Just my 2 pennies worth .........Fishhesd Vic

Re: Springer Plunking with the 3yr olds.
I'm with the person above, I was mislead that we were using them as bait. I was gonna tell about gator fishing, plunking techniques. Nevermind now....

Re: Springer Plunking with the 3yr olds.
Sorry to disapoint you guys but there's no way I'm gonna waste my occasional excuses to go fishing on one or two Springers. Besides, they're too expensive to use as bait and they'd probably tangle up the rig.
Don't worry Fishead, I don't snag, I release natives and I don't let my kids fish for things that might be bigger than they are....yet. They're still in the trout phase. I am looking forward to their reactions to seeing someone catch a salmon or steelie though.
