Default Hank and Howard Update 12-21-06

Well, Hank and Howard got to go hunting again today.

It all started last night. I wanted to go straight to the club and get some good shuteye, but Hank and Howard begged to go to the bar to see their DA buddies. So we did.

I managed to drag them out of the Decoy pretty early, but it didn't do me much good. The festivities continued at the Deer Island duck club. The boys stayed up all night downing the Clown Oil (crown royal) and playing pool.

The next day, the boys needed plenty of coffee to get their motors running.

We set up in the blind CD had built the day before. The hunting was good, unfortunately the killing was not. I blame it on the blues brothers, they were really nursing their hangovers, and not that into the hunt. CD and Jon look like they are having fun, right?

We pulled out all the stops, three kinds of motion dekes, hard calling, soft calling, no calling, flagging, there just wasn't much happening. Fog turned to sun, and it was a pintail show. We could have hunted more effectively out of layouts, but that would have only given us more opportunities at pintail, and once you have your three, what to do?

Here are the boys loafing in the sun. Don't shoot that greenhead, that's my kite! I told you we pulled out all the stops!

We ended the day at 1pm (the club's self imposed shooting time)with three sprig, a smiler and a scissors bill. No taking pictures of that pile.

That white marker for signing the dekes is definitely busted, or possibly just really crappy. I will try to get another one before sending it on to Eric.

Fleece, you're up! How do you want me to get them to you? I can ship them, or maybe meet you somewhere in between? PM me, I will PM you my contact info as well.

Kurt,

Thanks for the story and the pics!!!

From the Decoy to the Deer Island Hunt Club... that's quite the trip (in more ways than one).

Sorry the boys were mis behaiving. They aren't of age and should not have been drinking. They will get a talkin' to when they get home. I'm sure they'll be begging to go out with Uncle Kurt though...

Thanks again!!!

Geoff

Kurt, thanks for taking the boys out. It looks like they had a little too much fun. Too bad i wasn't able to see them on Wednesday night at the Decoy. I kinda miss the little fellas.

I could not find a white paint marker, so I bought and used a silver sharpie, and that worked great. I will send that with the dekes. No word from Fleece yet. Who is next on the list after him? When to we decide to fish or cut bait and send it on to the next guy on the list?

I'll see what I can turn up. If you can hold on to them for a little bit, I'll let you know.

Trying to get them to Eric. If anyone talks to him, can you let him know that his voice mail box is full. If he would rather not take them, can someone let him know to let me know? Pretty please? Threemuch has been trying to contact him for a bit now.

I also think that boys went out again with Kurt (Threemuch) today. We'll have to wait and see. Seems pretty ducky out there...

Not ducky for us...DEAD slow. We set up for geese and ducks in Scapoose bay, and hunted most of the day for 1 young western. We didn't even see 10 ducks all day. Wind was all wrong for us most of the day, blowing across the bay away from Hwy 30. Best shooting op we had was at a swan that dang near tried to steal our hats he came so close to the boat.

No word from Eric yet. I have seen a post from him dated the 26th but he isn't returning PMs...

I am hunting with him in the next few days and I beleive I am near the top of the list too. Perhaps I could pick them up and we can get us both scratched off the list at once?

Kurt, I live in Oregon City and am off work this week. What part of town do you live?

Im thinking I could bring the boys on a LC hunt on Friday and then on my hunt with fleece a few days later. Geoff, let me know if this works into your master plan?

Jim

It does as long as they get on Eric's trip if he is still willing. If not, no worries, and they will move along.

Well looks like Jimbo hasn't posted the pics yet but I had the pleasure of hunting with them this last weekend. Jim will hopefully post the pics later. It was a LC hunt and we did all right thanks to some great I mean great shooting from redfish and buddy. We ended the day with 24 birds for the four of us mostly puddles ducks and four bluebills. Just so the boys could see just how fast they really do fly. Quote of the day "I was aiming five feet in front of him and hit 10 feet behind him" Yep thats how I do it too.
Great unt with some great guys. My hats off to the carvers you guys got talent.
