Re: WalMart Breathable waders any good??
Bongo, this is a can of worms you opened up. I noticed your same topic over on bob's bb too. Now onto the reply:
Forget getting gear like that at Wal-Mart. Check out Cabela's for sure since it seems money is an issue perhaps. I have a pair of 5mm neoprenes and those boogers are warm and were fairly inexpensive. Buy your wading boots according to your terrain. I have felt-sole boots. Buy those 1/2 - 1 size larger than your shoe size to accommodate for thick socks and your waders. I ordered the waders and the wading boots for around $100 or less. I can't remember.
Now the drawback. If you do a lot of walking to get to your fishing spots, then neoprenes give you a workout and can raise your body temperatures up.
Positive note: They are warm, and very easy to repair. Especially if you melt a rubber worm to the puncture for streamside assistance.
Now Osprey and several others have the breathable waders. Dress warm underneath is all I have to say, but mobility is a lot easier in these. Cabela's sells these as well, plus the fleece pajamas to wear underneath them. I'm thinking about getting a pair of those maybe next time I'm in the market for waders since I move around a lot.
Drawback: A tad spendy depending on the brand, but still more costly than neoprenes. Don't know about wear and tear??
Hope this helps. If it doesn't, don't blame me, blame Canada!

Re: WalMart Breathable waders any good??
I just love Cabelas!
I got my new spring catalog yesterday and I spent a good hour (both in and out of the bathroom) turning page after page.
My wife just cringes and sighs when it comes in the mail. And you just can't be a Cabelas lover without the official Cabelas Visa. Earn points baby!
I know this post started talking about Wal-Mart waders - but since someone mentioned Cabelas, I just had to put in my money's worth. One of my favorite rods is a Cabelas 8.5 6-10 lb fisheagle II teamed up with a Diawa 1300 spinning real for tossing spinners. A bit light, but its good - and reasonable!
Back to the original topic - I would look into Cabelas breathables. And why not?

I have 5mm neoprenes,3.5mm neoprenes, waist high cabelas, and wade-lites II by hodgeman and I like the waist highs and I like the Wade lites best. They both dont seem to pull on my shoulders sa much as the others.Look for a warranty and if it is a good one and they fail take them back

Re: WalMart Breathable waders any good??
I have the breathable and love them. I know for a fact that they don't take stickers as well as the neo's but I wouldn't want anything other than breathable. I would say you should spend some money and get good ones. don't get the cheapy stuff. it doesn't have as good of an outer shell and you will end up having tiny pin holes that you can't see. go with the good ones and get the felt wading shoes!! never get rubber boots. it's certain death to yer rods and many wet days on the river!!! felt just sticks to wet rocks rubber slips when wet.

Re: WalMart Breathable waders any good??
I have some Q's about this too. The last year I have gotten back into a little short hike bankfishing. I have the heavy neoprene's, and you are right Mike, they are a load to walk in. My other concern is that I have gone thru a few sticker bushes, and while trying to avoid wader contact I did have some. I can't detect specific leaks from these occurances but it seems I am getting a little more moisture inside now. I don't know if it's from tiny sticker holes or just sweating in these things. My Q's: Are the neo.'s more prone to getting tiny hook or sticker holes than the breathables? Or visa versa? Which are tougher with greater overall longevity? Those lighter and dryer breathables sound like what I would prefer and I would like to get some. I have heard these are made with Gortex? (the supposed waterproof material that isn't waterproof). And where is the best deal on a quality pair? Thanks much. - Steve

Re: WalMart Breathable waders any good??
I love my Cabelas breathables, the outer shell seams pretty tuff with the dry-plus(just like Gortex different brand) layer in between, just gotta wear you're jammies underneath for those cccold mornings,I also got a pair of the Kevlar guides series boots ,very nice stuff.
The thing I love about Cabelas is I never had any problem returning anything....Os

Re: WalMart Breathable waders any good??
I always wear my rain gear bottoms when stomping throught the puckerbrush in my waders. You slide right through without catching and it doesn't seem to be a problem in the water. Granted, it's an extra layer, but it works well.

Re: WalMart Breathable waders any good??
Simms, that is all that needs to be said, lifetime guarantee, 5 layers of the best gortex made, salt and deet will not effect them like the cheaper brands out there like cabelas.
Nuff said!!!
