Default Interesting Article on Duct Tape

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duct_tape

I read this to my kids tonight for their bedtime story. Really! They were mesmerized.

Truly mesmerizing, indeed.

My favorite was this little gem (and my apologies in advance to anyone whom I might offend by posting it here):
Other names for duct tape (including the Scandinavian "Jesus Tape", a name which comes from duct tape's apparent ability to perform miracles) have been documented at length..."

Have used it on warts after hearing it from a doctor. Works very well. Matter of fact it worked better than the injections my son got which didn't do squat.

Well, ya know if a doctor didn't see it, it didn't really happen....

But... did they use Duct Tape to film it? Did they show the film on a Duct Tape TV?

EB Green - Used at Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut and various other shipyards. Army truck green in color and extremely strong. In the days of high drama and massive naval buildup EB Green could be seen on boots, clothing and vehicles holding things together all around coastal Connecticut.

Apochryphal story. A boat was sandblasted for painting in the dry dock and a wooden plug covered with EB Green was discovered under the paint. This was a temporary plug in a hull penetration from a previous overhaul and it did not leak.

So add

Test depth tape .. to the list.

Louisiana Chrome - Cajun for duct tape.

Good stuff.

Just remember this...

Nothing says "shoddy workmanship" like wrinkles in your duct tape!

Red Green, funny, quirky. He did his last show a few years ago.

A few years ago I re-painted my DB and was using that blue masking tape stuff to keep slop off the pin stripes. I thought the blue looked so good that I went out to find some auto-detailing tape that I did NOT buy due to it being about $60!!!

A bit later I was in GI Joes and happened on the shelf that had colored duct tape. Lo and behold the blue duct tape was the right size and color and only $4. It held up well for two years and looked great. Replacing it was a breeze. So, add that to the list.....

I thought it was duck tape, not duct.......the soldiers in WW2 that used it thought it was waterproof like a duck!

I, unfortunately have used duct tape recently to repair a self made hole in the cab over of my RV. It held out all the elements during our pineapple express rains without fail. RV is now in shop being repaired. I'm wondering if it should've just been left alone .

While reading this the first thing I thought of was the Red Green show. I don't get PBS anymore, is the Red Green show still on?

Funny there should be so much interest in Duct Tape today. Maybe some of ya'll saw me driving around in this.......

My teenage daughter saw fit to nearly rip the door off the truck last night. Since the door won't shut and I needed to drive around getting estimates, I used some cord to hold it almost shut and the tape to keep the weather out. Put almost 100 miles on it (70 of that was highway)going to various shops getting estimates.

I've used duct tape for just about everything. When I worked at at Mt. Bachelor, the first we'd do (lift operators) would be to tape the fingers of our ski gloves. The tape would outlast the leather.

I always thought the three greatest inventions were duct tape, velcro, and bungie cords. I couldn't imagine going camping without them.

Nope....hung it up on a cement planter at a business.

She's learning three things

don't break the law
don't wreck the truck
don't lie to dad about what happened. (biggest lesson taught here)

The roads will be safe for at least 6 months
