Default Springers

Someone at Anderson's Sporting Store, down here in Salem, is circulating a rumor that they are catching fish at Oregon City and that there a fish pouring over the falls. Hog lines up and down the river. Can anyone confirm or deny this rumor?

That guy is yanking your chain and/or is a complete idiot! There have been a few springers caught in OC and Portland but there are no springers over the falls. They will begin coming in April and peak in may.

There have been 1300 or so steelhead over the falls but remember we can't fish the Willamette above the falls until April 1.

Well...I llive in Oregon City....and I can tell you there's been about 10-15 boats a day between the West Linn and I-205 bridge. How they're doing is anybody's guess. In talking with folks I know, fish are being caught just about everywhere....leads me to believe I should be out there, instead of here. TOMORROW...Maybe even TODAY!! As for fish moving over the falls....well when the water temp hits 52-53 degrees...they'll be charging over the falls....and that'll be late April or early May, most likely.

Yes there are a few being caught, but it is still very sparse success ratio. A friend of mine has 3 so far, but he fishes nearly every day for the little success he has had. His fish have come above 205 bridge, w/ Prawns & one on herring. Good Luck!!

IMO it's WAY too early to get excited about springers at OC. If you have nothing else to do and want to give it a shot, great. They've caught a few, but there won't be very many fish up there for another month. The only hogline formed is a few boats in the lake line. Other than that it's just a few guys trolling or backtrolling. I was down at Sportcraft the other day, and they've seen a lot of steelhead caught this winter, but springers up there right now are like finding a needle in a haystack.

If you start putting in too much time right now, you'll be burned out by the time the fish do arrive (been there, done that).
