You know, ice fishing is the only thing that makes me homesick for Minnesota. Walleyes, sunfish, and crappies through the ice, Fun stuff.

Steelieslammer:I would say the average fish was 12-13in a few of them went close to 18in. Tons of fun on the ultralight gear, just got to go easy on the hooksets I learned the hard way on my first fish

Re: Idaho Ice Fishing...(pics)
The pic's are great! Lots of memories on the ice for me. It was a Sunday tradition in my family. From Dec. to March we were out every weekend! Fire's in the morning cooking bacon & eggs, Venison chili in the afternoon and lots of fish in between. Some of the biggest warmwater species I've got have come through the ice.

Re: Idaho Ice Fishing...(pics)
Now that definetely makes me miss Minnesota/North Dakota. Lots of good memories sitting on a frozen pond turning into a frozen human being! My aunt told me it was -44 degrees last week    But ice fishing with 5 rods would be a good way to stay warm or at least busy! Congrats on the fish. Looks like it was a lot of fun.

Based on the first picture, it looks pretty easy. I mean come on, if the fish are just sitting on top of the ice like that....

I've only ice fished once, in Finland, and it was soo cold, but I am looking forward to trying it again. For you Idaho guys, how is the ice fishing in Anderson Ranch Res? I am going by there next week and would love to shiver over an ice-hole for a couple hours.

Re: Idaho Ice Fishing...(pics)
Went ice fishing near Great Falls, MT a few years ago. It was colllddd, but fun too. We had a portable hooch to sit in though and that made a LOT of difference keeping the wind at bay. Didn't catch as many as you guys, but did get a few larger trout.

Re: Idaho Ice Fishing...(pics)
rainrshine,
Did you catch any on the two pound line using the "itty bitty micro rod?"
Did everyone notice the one picture with all the fish that there was a little bitty fish under the top right bigger fish? That was rainrshine's way of making his fish look a little bigger than mine. I think the top left fish beat it by atleast a mm.

Re: Idaho Ice Fishing...(pics)
gthfish,
I heard about a 12 lb walleye caught through the ice earlier this week. That is the first one I have ever heard of. I don't quite understand why we don't catch more here while ice fishing. In Minn, they catch lots through the ice. As I understand it, our walleye came from Minn. Have you ever been to the Walleye Hall of Fame? Look for my picture, I'll be there some day!

Re: Idaho Ice Fishing...(pics)
Man that brings back fond memories.
I love ice fishing and have fished that lake before.
Tell me you didn't go to Jackpot for the Buffet?
That is Salmon Falls Creek Res, right?
We got pretty stuck in my buddies 4X4 Suzuki 1 year trying to get into that place.
Did you see all the huge Walleye on the wall at the store. I believe the state record hangs there.
I have a gas powered auger, minute man shak with retractable skis and about 25 rods for ice fishing. I know every spot in SouthEast Idaho and parts of Montana.
The wife was just telling me the other day I should sell it all since I haven't used them in several years. Kind of put me in the mood for a road trip but I can't seem to sacrifice a Tuna day for it.
Decisions decisions....
Rainorshine, If you would be interested in a trip to Montana for serious icefishing give me a call....
Or should we go Tuna fishing?
You are reserving July 1st aren't you?
Only 148 days to go....

We used a little of everything. Small microlight rods, tip-ups(new to me) and super itty bitty rods!! Lots of fun all the way around.

Re: Idaho Ice Fishing...(pics)
We used to ice fish for walleyes and bluegills back in Indiana when I was a kid. I remember putting a 55 gal. barrel lid on the ice and building a fire on it. Worked great till the ice melted below and the lid sank and filled with water. We had some great times. Nice catch. Thanks for bringing up old memories!

Re: Idaho Ice Fishing...(pics)
Excellent. I had an opportunity last year to run over to a lake in N.E. Nevada for a weekend (actually a one day fishing, one day to get there one day back) of ice fishing! What a riot! Blowing snow, 20" or so of ice, bright sun, and good times with great friends.
Glad you had a great time rainrshine!

Re: Idaho Ice Fishing...(pics)
Mojo,
My dad wants to go icefishing on Sat and he has never been before. He like the perch but he also wants to catch lots of fish. I might take him to Salmon Dam like I did rainrshine. It all depends on your report. I heard the walk in to Magic is 1/4 mile from the lodge but with the new snow we have had it might be a little longer.
Looking forward to the report.

Thanks for bringing back the memories!! :depressed: I miss my fish house, woodstove, gas ice auger, running into my frinds fish house with my car, because we had little snow on the ground and no traction. (He was in the fishhouse when this happened and his eyes were as big as
That is my story and I'm stickin' to it

1 Aught,
The perch are worth the hike, We're taking a snow machine though. Ronnie caught a couple 14 inchers and a bunch of 12-13 last weekend. I wouldn't believe it if I didn't see 'em. I'll post again tomorrow. Hopefully some pictures of Mondo-Perch!

Re: Idaho Ice Fishing...(pics)
Well fishing was pretty slow. We fished about 7 hours, caught 30-40 perch and 5 trout (4 guys). Weather was cold (-4 when we got there, warmed to 20 or so, then cooled off to about 10 at dusk). Sunny during the day. Had a blast. Here is a picture of Ronnie and Mojo with a few perch and a slime rocket...
