Default Shrimping

I have recenetly moved back to Oregon after living on the east coast and I can say one thing I really miss is shrimping. After reading Oregon regulations there is a limit for shrimp so that tells me that somebody must be shrimping. Does anybody have any info. on shrimping in Oregon or Washington?

Off the banks or out of a boat? We used to just throw bait casting nets off of the boat docks but I think out here they use traps kind of like crawdad traps.

Shrimp season opens the third Saturday in May on the Hood Canal. Special pots are required. The mesh size varies depending on if your fishing the Canal or Puget Sound. You can get more info here. www.wa.gov/wdfw/fish/regs/fishregs/htm
Left side of page under maps and regs for shrimp and other deepwater species.
There is no resource in Oregon that I know of.

Grits - I have never done it so I know little. I believe it is all done from a boat and in a couple hundred feet of water. Cat food seems to be the bait most use.

Grits, Yes the trap size is very importatant and all of the regulations that invovle shrimping. I went last year and did really good with cat food and alaska fish fertilizer mixed togeether. I had a Washington cop on my tail the whole time I was ther to see if I was within the law. They really concentrate around the Oregon guys very heavily Just read the regs carfully and enjoy the shrimp!!!! Better have 300'+ rope on your trap and some type of puller.
