Default HUMMINBIRD

After reading the posts on fishfinders I see humminbird is not the one to buy. I already own two platnuim IDs. Has anyone tried a different transducer from another model. the one that was on my boat when I bought it does not look same as the one I bought new and it does'nt go crazy when I'm next to someone else with their finder on.

SHLEP,

One of the reasons your transducer goes crazy when your next to someone is because the signal cones overlap. This happens on my bass boat, I have a Lowrance X65 at the helm and a Lowrance X85 at the bow, I can't run both at the same time in deep water because the two cone signals interfere with each other. If I am in 20' or less I can run both without problems.

If you're concered with interference from other finders, you might try and find one with a narrower signal cone. Most fishfinders come with a wide cone transducer stock, because most guys fish fresh water and don't need a narrow cone. The Narrow cone is more for deep saltwater aplications, one other thing with the narrow cone---what you see on the screen is usually right under the boat. With a wide cone the arcs you see could be 20-30' to either side of your boat.

OK, today I get the dumb@$$ award!

Shlep, I just re-read your post. Apparently you have a narrow cone transducer now. That's why it doesn't go nuts!!!!!! The only thing going nuts is my brain this morning, TOO EARLY to think straight!!
