Did you weather the storm?
Well it sure did blow over here
I just checked the canvas on my boat and it is OK
How did you all fair?
We lost power for about 2 1/2 hours
On my way home I stopped and got a take n bake pizza but by the time I got Home there was no power
Guess what?
You can cook a pizza on a gas grill It came out perfect
Let's hear your storm stories and I hope everyone got through it as easy as I did

Re: Did you weather the storm?
Power on and off. Wind gusts were pretty strong. I put my hand on the window and could feel the window flexing. I was driving through town and had a garbage can pass me. Some trees blew down across the way and gave us a little more Ocean View/Peak.

I don't suppose you put a few windward "relief" cuts in the trunks of those trees did you?

Re: Did you weather the storm?
Pretty much a non-event here. I know others didn't fair as well so our thoughts go to them today.
Our house is protected pretty well to the SSW by terrain and tall trees - never lost power, had lots of flickers and saw lots of arching from the lines over a few blocks. Some branches scattered around the yard. No doubt the wind was howling just above us - and below us towards Fanno creek - was surprised that those trees made it through the night. I do have two large trees and I'm always expecting them to come down, but not this time.

Re: Did you weather the storm?
Puget Sound area got hammered. We didn't lose power here in Snohomish, but at one time early this am they said there was over 2 million customers without power in the greater puget sound area.
Every school districe on the west side of the mountains was closed today. Damages are quite incredible. Tree's are down everywhere. They've been telling people on the radio all day not to leave their house.
Lots of homes with trees through them.

My thoughts go out to all who have suffered from this storm. I never thought Chicago would have a weather advantage to the NW...please don't send the storm our way!

Re: Did you weather the storm?
In Corvallis all the power was out for the eve/night. Lots of trees and power poles down. My house lost 7 shingles - and I had exactly 7 shingles left in the shop to replace them! We got whacked. I replaced them this (Friday) eve in the dark, ice on the roof didn't help much.
I'll be spending Saturday helping a friend dissect a tree on his garage. Good thing the rivers are so high, no fishing thoughts to get in the way.

Re: Did you weather the storm?
All is well in the gorge. A few limbs down here and there but nothing major. Really just a light breeze compared to what we're used to out this way.

Re: Did you weather the storm?
Hey Buddy,
I lost Power for about 24+ hours in the battle ground area. Got home from work to a cold house, fired up my generator, plugged it into the house, turned on electric blanket, sipped on some Jack... all was well, power restored today about 1400.

Re: Did you weather the storm?
Where we live in Waldport the power stayed on, but ,many other sections here have been without power since 1 AM night of the storm. Looks like they will be off until Monday? Hwy. 34 has slides and lots of trees down. I heard yesterday, Hwy. 20 and 18 were closed ude to downed trees? No idea of current situations on road closures. Seems like power failures each winter are a way of life to some degree for many of us. Gotta have the emergency stuff on hand always.

Re: Did you weather the storm?
We just got power this morning (Saturday) in Lincoln City. My wife and I camped in our house from Thursday night when the power went out until Saturday morning 9:00 a.m. Two trees went down in our neighborhood. We appreciate electricity alot more now. Thanks to Pacific Power for all the work they did.

Re: Did you weather the storm?
Just got the power back on . If anyone is missing part of a red porch roof, come and get it, it is in my back yard. Already found the owner of the boat/carport cover.
Two nights by candle light, and cooking on a propane camp stove. Actually enjoyed the change of pace...

Re: Did you weather the storm?
I lost power early afternoon on Thursday. Came back on Saturday around 9am. I loose power once or twice a year and in 10 years this is the longest it's been out. I have a wood stove for heat and a generator for everything else, just not at the same time.

Re: Did you weather the storm?
Olympia, Washington: SW side: our place was without power for 30+ hours... I was getting an urge to purchase a generator to keep the 100+ pounds of salmon frozen.. fortunately, the power came back on... I think this is what happens when the state regulators and the utilities play "chicken" on how much money should be spent on trimming trees each year.. It would be nice if the utilities/shareholders would expect a lower return on their investments... IMHO

Re: Did you weather the storm?
We lost electricity at 6:00 pm Thursday in Bay City and got it back today around 1:00 pm. Wow, do I appreciate electricity now!! We lost all of the food in the refrigerator, but luckily the stuff in the freezer was ok. Made coffee on the barbecue and ate PBJ for a couple of days.

Re: Did you weather the storm?
Just got it back right now! Lots of branches and some trees down. Spent this morning going to a few friends houses and cutting trees and such off cars and driveways!

Re: Did you weather the storm?
We lost power for right around 36 hours. Last spring I installed a backup 15KW generator (natural gas powered). Good move! I do need to purchase a few more electric heaters, or install a natural gas emergency backup furnace!

Re: Did you weather the storm?
Our power went down about 8 P.M. Thursday. Came back up about 3 this morning. Wife really enjoyed me sitting on the deck cooking on the elk camp stove.

I was out of power at Gleneden Beach until Saturday at 5am.
Lincoln Beach North had power.
The Red Can at Depoe Bay did not weather the storm so well

Dang I sure hope that buoy will not be in the way when the seas finally relent and give us a day on the water

It's not currently in the way, it is just North of the channel.

Re: Did you weather the storm?
The current plan for the buoy is this. The next available window we hope to get the chain cut just below the buoy at the bridle. We will then tow the buoy into Depoe Bay and tie it off to be dealt with at a later date.
The buoy is shifting with the current/swell/tide, etc. Yesterday it was flat out in our way while we were standing by for a couple commercial boats. It's definately a high priority for us to get it moved. The last thing we want to be doing or the commercial fleet wants to be doing is dancing with the #2 buoy while you attempting to navigate the worlds smallest entrance.
I'll keep you posted on our progress.

Re: Did you weather the storm?
I've only seen it when it was North of the hole, but it makes sense that there's enough slack in the chain from being in a shallower depth that it can move around.
Just one more challenge for the Hole in the Wall Gang!

Re: Did you weather the storm?
WOW
Did the CG move the buoy?
Or did mother nature do it on her own?
What is the plan for putting it back??
Thanks
