Default Glowsticks for ditch bag

Been reading how the night fishermen on the east coast have a glowstick and whistle on their person. Makes it much easier to find a MOB in the dark.

Going to add glowsticks to my ditch bag, and if we run at night I will have extra glowsitcks for all on board to have on their person. A flashing strope light with good bateries will work also..

The other reason to carry glowsticks on a boat is, these same glowsticks can be used for night fishing. They work well for Swords and other night feeding fish....they claim to give off light all night long..

Here is a link to one supplier. Sure there are many more...

Glow sticks are nice.. KEEP tabs on the Expire date. .

get the industrial style. they last longer. They are great tools in the dark, in the woods. Car.

Tie a 550 Parachute cord. to one end.. Swing in Circle pattern, for night time signal. works great. ( never tried it while swiming!!).

Since I am in a smaller boat that is easy to fall out of, when we are running at night I have everyone wear an inflatable PFD, with one of these Glo-Toob lights on it. I discovered them in my scuba days. They are waterproof to 11,500 feet and indestructible. They use an encapsulated LED, have a few flash patterns, and run for over 30 hours on one battery. There is also a power saver mode that will run for about a week. You can find them online for around $20 and they are about the size of your thumb. I always have one close by. On the steady burn mode you can use them for walking and they make a good tent light.

I buy a lot of stuff from the military and I got a huge case of expired Cyalume personal marker lights. The ones in the black tube with the handle that helps you activate it. I don't know the model number but they are the ones you always see on life jackets. Anyhow once they are more than 2 years expired there is a HUGE Difference in light output. Some of the ones that were 5+ years old, just glowed enough to barley notice them. So the advice on watching the expiration date is solid.

Bob

I carry strobes but that's a good inexpensive way to go. Glowsticks work well for rockfish and lings too. Matter of fact it worked so well a ling put a hole in one. Next time need to put on a hook on it.

For diving safety I bought a "safety sausage". It is a 7' long blow-up tube with orange and hi-vis yellow. Divers use it to signal boats as they float at water level.

I don't remember anyone mentioning anything like that here. I was probably just dense.

Anyways - now that I have it for diving I'll bring it with me on the boat too. It rolls up to the size of a coke/beer can and is well built, brass hasp as well.

I put a six pack of glow sticks in the boat about 2 years ago. Good advice on checking the expiration. One more thing to add to the check list.

I have attached glow sticks and whistles to all on board PFDs.
