Blm
I noticed on the front page of todays newspaper it cited BLM opened gates resulted in the Kim tragedy. They're blaming BLM ! YIKEs
You know what this means don't you ?
Locked gates everywhere............. This doesn't seem right.
I could have travelled that road in my 4x4 loaded with Food, Propane, clothing, Chainsaw and everthing else I normally travel with and been at Zero Risk.....
As if we aren't already restricted enough.
Whadaya think ? Or am I jumping to conclusions too quickly !

Re: Blm
From what I saw on this mornings news that gate was supposed to have been locked but the people that were supposed to do it did not want to lock anybody in so they held off.

Re: Blm
The news report I saw was the lock had been cut by vandals.
I do not understand how something like this can be blamed on the BLM, Forest Service, or any organization. If the snow looks deep or a situation looks a little dicey dont go there. What ever happened to common sense and personal responsibility.
Not to be insensitive or anything, why was he a hero? Objectively looking at the events that took place it seems he made some really bad decisions that could have claimed the entire family.

Re: Blm
We have all made a bad choice at some time in life but it was our choice to put the blame on someone else or something else is wrong but in todays world they want to shift the blame to someone else. we can't nor should we coddle everyone stand up and take responsibilty for your own actions. We could die at any time so just do your best to be prepaired for anything that might arise in your life.

Sorry ,but the news report today stated the BLM admitted that the gate was not opened by vandals but left open by there employess as stated before ,they did not want to lock anyone in who might have been inside. As far as the second part of your post, I am leaving that one alone, too many recent posts that are similar that didn't end up well.

Re: Blm
I doubt that if the news people actually saw someone lock, or unlock, or saw off a lock that they could actually get it straight.

Re: Blm
If that particular gate had been closed and locked, I am sure the Kim family would have gotten stuck on another road anyway. It is not the BLM's fault!

Re: Blm
So long as they don't over react and start locking every gate in the winter it's OK by me,
That's all I am concerned about here.
The Kim story is truly a tragedy and I don't want that to be an issue here Please.

Re: Blm
James Kim was a moron. I know I am being harsh but he had many, many opportunities to help himself and family and made the wrong choice every time. Although not reported in the major news media, there was one major factor that seemed utterly stupid to me. THEY WERE NEVER STUCK ON THE SKID ROAD. They chose to wait for help instead of driving out in order to conserve their gas, to use as heat. This is what the wife told the state police. Hopefully the BLM realizes a man is dead because he was stupid and he doesn't represent the majority of other people who use the land.
If the BLM starts restricting access in a knee jerk reaction because of this we really need to bombard them with letters, emails, and phone calls.

I wondered about that, as I never really heard or read anything that said the car was stuck.
