Default Got Smelt?

I am looking to head out after some Sturge this Sat. Any Ideas on where I can pick up some fresh smelt. I didn't fair too well last weekend using Roll mop herring & pickeled Smelt. My time is short so no time to dip 'em myself.

Thanks,

Tako

Well good thing you don't have time to dip. Because you would have to go to the coast to dip. They aren't in yet. OK, OK if you want some smelt, you can go to Fisherman's they have some vacum packed. That's the closes thing your will get to fresh until those little buggers show up.

All I ever use is pickled squid. I have been known to use the same little piece of squid all day and catch as many as 20 fish. My husband uses smelt and if I start outcatching him, he switches to squid. The nice thing about the squid is as soon as you release one fish, you can get right back out. With smelt, you usually have to rebait after every fish or two. Just my .02!!!!
