Question Timber Companies in the Santiam unit

My sons and brother have late season cow elk tags. We are in search of a timber company in the Santiam unit that needs some of those pesky elk eliminated. Can anyone help?

Call the Salem district Wildlife Bio. They may have a map of areas where there is reported damage. I know they do here in Lincoln County.

Is the hunt you got the Sandy hunt. If it is I might be able to help you out. My place is in the Sandy hunt zone and I like to have some names of a FEW guys on hand if the elk get to thick in the nursery stock.

Get ahold of Longview Fibre's Silverton/Abiqua tree farm. They have a big chunk of timberland with a fair number of elk back in there.

I think their office is out by Drake's Crossing?

Good luck!

Thats a good tip from sliverpicker. You might talk to Delbert Hupp at Drake's Crossing nursery. I don't know if they let people hunt there ground but it can't hurt to ask.

Not sure what the boundaries for the Santiam Unit are but the following companies should be in that general area.

Longview Fibre
Feres Lumber Company
Frank Lumber Company
Weyerhaeuser - North Valley (Molalla & Cascade Logging)
Hampton Lumber

Depending on how bad it is for companies, most will lend you a hand in getting on their property. I know the big "W" used to let people on during cow season.... that was a few years back though.

I don't have the tag....I drew Lower Columbia master hunter and I'm already done......My sons & brother drew Santiam cow elk tags that run from Feb. 1st- Mar. 15th, 2007....Sorry I don't know the exact # of the tag.
